time it's about like the common cold in humans no cure . you can ease the symptoms a bit on the bad ones with a little childrens cough syrup .

I had a gyp that had it for three months..... Sucked, I kept her away the 1st month and a 1/2 from the rest of the pack. I gave her half a decongestant in the morning and Benedryl at night. Not that it did much but I felt it helped her get more out. After the first month or so I let her go back on her chain she didnt have the snot coming out by then just a dry cough. She don't give it to any of the other dogs. I also saw getting her back into hunting shape was a little harder than it should've been. I'm guessing it could've scarred her lungs?

My dogs got some kind of cough several years ago. Started spreading by way of my yard dog. Figured it was being spread thru the drinking water in buckets. I put some bleach in every bucket and within a few days they all stopped coughing.

Sometimes it will run it's course, but sometimes it can become more severe and lead to pneumonia. Just gotta watch your dogs closely. Easiest thing to do is put em on a 10 day regimen of Amoxicillan or Cephalexin twice a day. That usually will do the trick.

the shot is bordatella , but if they already have it your waisting your money . it is a preventative not a cure . but like ms. la said watch for secondary infections and treat with anti-biotics .

You"ll have to get the Doxy at the vet. I don't care what anyone says - it works. I had 11 dogs with kennel cough at one time and it worked. I tried waiting it out.......but who has 3 or four weeks for the dogs to lay up. Told the vet how many dogs and what weight I had and they sold me the pills.
Halfbreed is right - the vaccine is a preventative and it's a solution you squirt up their nose. I can't remember if it has to be kept cold or not but you may want to ensure whoever you buy it from has stored it correctly.
Good luck it's a frustrating ordeal.

Yes the bordatella is an intranasal vaccine that is meant as a preventative. It does have to be kept cold. You can give it once a year, or twice a year if your dog is exposed to alot of other dogs. If they have kennel cough, you want to wait until they are completely over it before giving them the vaccine.

Clavamox is VERY effective on kennel cough as well. That's what we used to prescribe to all of the non severe cases and it always worked wonders. Either or. Depends on what the Vet prefers as well.
