Donated a hunt for my little girl's school for a raffle. Father and son won the hunt. James and I met them early saturday morning a few weeks back. We casted Sally and Snapper out in some oat feilds that run along a creek. I also had Jr with us but he has taken a liking to running deer so I was waiting to bump some deer so I could do a little shock collar work on him. We got to the back of the place where we found ALOT of old rooting. I saw a worn out cattle trail going up in a thicket. I walked 100 yards or so into it thinkng there was a pond bck there. Got bored with that so I walked back to the wheelers. Sally met me there and I saw Snapper trailing 3oo yards out in an open field. She hit a block of woods and opened up. Sally went to her and I sent Jr off the front rack. All three curs were singing. We got 70 yards from them and sent Kung Pow,Debo and Squirt. We heard Debo hit, sounded like a football hit. I got to the bay first and was amazed at what I saw. Big hog. I tried to leg him but he was kicking the crap out of me each time. I just grabbed his tail and held him there. Bulldogs were each ear and doing well holding him. James got there and we flipped the hog and let the hunter kill him. After a few hours we got him loaded up and up a calf scale. Shoot... Scales are wrong. It weighed me at 145. I am 178. Weighed my buddy at 300, he is 335. Scale said hog was 300-305. So we say he was 330.
First barr hog I have caught. Biggest hog I have caught with bulldogs. Killed one bigger but I shot him over my dogs. I have never cut a hog and I dont think anyone around me has. We cleaned him and the fat content suprised me. No wonder so many people like to cut hogs. The one hog I would mount rode home in someone elses truck !Oh well. Snapper also found a big group of big hogs an hour later. It was hot and the sounder was backed into a big patch of woods. I was afraid the bulldogs would bust the group and take off chasing hogs. I shot a nice 200 pound sow out the group while the cur dogs caught a few small ones. Called the dogs out and headed to the house. Snapper has really turned it on in her older years. Wish I had a few more just like her.

Rowdy, I like him. Little girl and I took him swiming a week ago. He love to chase sticks and swim. Crazy dog....... He hates a hog and is dependable. Works great along side my little female pit.

Jason, He is a pit cross mastiff(maybe) massive dog. Really solid catch dog. If Kung pow wasnt fixed I would breed him and keep all the pups. He is on the back rack of my wheeler in one of the above pictures.

That's awesome ! That's one heck of a spotted barr! It's a shame you could'nt mount the head and eat the meat. You ever eat some good fat barr sausage and you'll throw rocks at boar and sow meat. My buddy gave me some meat and sausage from some barrs he killed on the coast and it was the best hog I've ever had. He said it was because of all the salt grass they eat. I don't know if that's what it was or not but it deffinetely had a very good flavor to it. Someone is defenitely working hogs around your area. It just goes to show that you never know where you will find a barr hog. Did it have any ear marks ?
