Just this past weekend I had thieves cut my gate lock and steal 5 batteries from my tractors. Then yesterday I come down to my barn to feed my hogs. They shot both my hogs left em laying and picked up their bullet casings. This time they didn't cut my lock. I can see why thieves would steal my batteries but why come back to shoot my hogs? People are pretty messed up to shoot someones hogs that are in a pen!

I haven't screwed anybody over or made anyone mad at me. That's why it's such a strange situation. Also the only people I've brought to this property are close friends, that I have also not made mad.

Who risks going to jail over stealing batteries? Sht's petty theft. My bet is on crack heads that ran outta drug money. But that still doesn't explain the killing.. I put a game cam up, hope they do come back and don't spot the cam

Could just be a thief wanting a sick thrill. Make sure there is no flash on the cam. If there is you better cover that flash.

I'm sure they have been there before. I see foot prints out there after it rains sometimes. Quite a few trespassers around. Someone even stole 5, 15 foot hog panels from me a few months ago. I saw their tracks going into the creek. They were some strong dudes to pull those things thru that rough terrain. Couldn't figure out where they went with them tho

I guess so. I have shot hogs in traps but that's just to help ranchers from hog damages. I just don't see why someone shoots farm pigs in a pen and doesn't harvest the kill. Just weird. Yes, it does have a infared flash... I just have my fingers crossed they don't see it lol

Time for some conibears
I pondered the trap idea but decided I better not. Don't want some kid exploring around and getting hurt. I'd be in some trouble then

Yep and I think its BS that you have to worry about someone else getting hurt on your land when they don't have a damn right to be there in the first place..........

That 330 conibear was set for a coyote. Sucks for the tresspasser that gets caught in a yote trap. At least thats what a sheriff said a few yrs back.

You can't set traps for people or where you "know" people may be. Now if a person goes where only animals goes and steps in a trap. I would post warning signs about traps where people would come and go like the gates. So if the law shows up you point out the warning signs at every entrance and that the traps were placed out of any people traffic. I personally would not use a trap. I would just have someone take my truck and wait. Or get a camera system that texts me when there is movement. Then catch them myself and use "force required" to hold them until law enforcement arrived Plus they already shot your pigs so you better consider them armed Grin

By pointing out u hav traps, u r more likely to get sued bc u knowingly placed traps out were humans MITE go, ur advertising for a lawer to knock on ur door. Its the same as posting signs up saying " caution, guard/attck dog" or "beware of dog". U know u may hav a dog that will possible attack any unwelcome intruder and then they sue ur a$$ bc they were in the wrong in the first place. The person may not win, especially if they had ur private belongings on them or near them when they got attacked or caught in a trap, but u'll b out time, money n work hours bc they were in the wrong in first place n this day n society u cant defend ur own hm, land n belongings.

Its better to ask for forgivness "play dumb and claim the trap was for animals (its their job to prove intent") than beg for mercy (by knowingly and intentionaly putting some1 in harms way)

Traps are a bad idea. A lawyer would just need to find this thread. But you can catch them yourself and be all legal. You can use force necessary to restrain them until cops get there too. You can't beat them senseless. But I would consider them armed and dangerous after shooting the pigs just to watch them die. I know a guy that knocked some teeth out when the thief tried to get away. The thief tried to sue but it was tossed out as soon as the judge saw he was hurt when caught steeling and tried to hit the homeowner. But do not get think that is a free pass to hit. I would personally just want them hog tied face down in the dirt until the law got there myself. I would take pictures of them not hurt at all just tied up. Then post them online for the world to see. Grin

Cracking me up man. I don't plan to hurt anyone nor put hands on them. That's what I would like to do but I'm just gonna play it stealthy and try to catch them on camera. I have a camera set in my barn facing the stall the pigs were in. They haven't came back yet but I'm betting they'll be wanting to look in that stall. On the bright side, I saw a turkey at my pond today! The turkey have been on the neighboring property forever! I've been wanting them to come over on my side forever!

Just put up signs sayin congratulations you are on camera dont even have to have one bit that may be enough for them to think about it anyway.  you never know about people especiqlly when they stoop low enoigh to go on someones property knowing there trespassing.  either that or just set em up and camp out in your barn and just shoot the s.o.b but you better shoot to kill dont try to wound em.
