I know it's kind of an off the wall question to post on a hunting forum, but I am looking for all opinions on it so I thought I'd try here.  I put this out to my Facebook friends as well. Wife and I are looking for a new mattress, and there ain't nothing cool about dropping a grand or more on a new king size mattress, so I want to do my research before I buy one. I'm a tight wad so I don't want to shell out a ton of cash on one, but at the same time don't want to buy a cheap piece of crap as well.  We've been to several different stores, and are kind of leaning towards one of the memory foam type mattress's.  anyone out there have the memory foam? Pros, cons? I've laid on plenty that feel good for a minute while laying on the, in the store, but am nervous about shelling out that kind of cash and not being happy with it in a few months.

Here's some sound advice in my opinion.

I'm on my feet anywhere from 10-16 hrs a day working, hunting, or doing something, and I like to try and get at least 6 or 7 hours of sleep every night.  Now that's pretty much most of the 24 hours in a day accounted for, so a good pair of boots and a good mattress will makes all the difference.

I like my King size Serta...it was expensive but it's comfortable.

I am very interested in this topic too & I will tell you what I have been through.
When I was 40 I had a horse that reared up & came down on top of me & had two herniated disks in my lower back.
After a few years when it really started to get to me & I needed a new mattress, I went & bought a tempur pedic sp.? & paid quite a bit for it. I thought I would get used to it but right before the 30 days were up, I tried to take it back. They said since I bought it on sale, they could not refund my money. On a good note my son loves it.lol
Went shopping again & like you I found a mattress that really felt good but when I got it home, could not sleep on it either so I am looking again. The funny thing is, I can sleep on my couch & my back never bothers me.
Make sure, when you do buy one, they will let you return it if you are not happy with it.
Has anybody ever tried the sleep number bed & how do you like it?

I'm up late and was looking through my old posts and thought I'd give an update to this one.  My wife and I finally decided on a Serta memory foam mattress with the cooling gel top. It came with a 100 day comfort guarantee. After the first night, I absolutely hated it and was ready to take it back. After a week or so I wouldn't trade it for nothing. I have herniated disks in my back and chronic back pain, and after 3 wks with the mattress I feel better in the morning than I have in quite some time. It does sleep hotter than a conventional mattress, but we got rid of one layer of covers and it is fine now. Should be great in the wintertime.  Certain intimate activities are a bit awkward without the bounce of a conventional spring mattress, but we'll just keep trying til we get that issue worked out, lol. I spent way more than I wanted to on this mattress, but so far I couldn't be happier with it. Just thought I'd share.

We got some high dollar tempurpedic and I hate that som buck.
I sleep on my stomach and it don't stay flat at all because it conforms on heat, so I sink in the middle and it arches my back. It's also hotter than 3 hamsters #?*!ing in a wool sock!

This interest me also. I thought I had bought a good mattress but I absolutely hate it after a couple years. No matter how long I sleep I wake up feeling like dog crap! My shoulders, back, legs, killing me when i wake up and my whole body is stiff as a board. Takes at least 30 minutes to function properly.
My wifes been on me for a while to get a new bedroom suit, and im bout to the point I don't care how much it cost, I want to get a good nights sleep!
