Nice representative of that line of dogs. I did a breeding to Kincannons Musket a few years back but it was pure Carver down from Lil Man and Miss Kim. Proud to call Floyd a 30 year friend and got to meet Jerry a couple years back.

Didn't know too much about pits. We took a guy hunting and he seen we were in need of catch dog. The next day he called my son and said he had a pup for us. We knew he raised pits, but we didn't know anything about the dogs he raised. |

The men who made those dogs have decades of knowledge. Both are near or over 80. Good luck with the dog. Don't let some growly cur start something cause your dog will sure finish it.

I look forward to hearing how he catches, he is definitely gonna be thick... He looks like a little angus bull.
I never started a catch dog before. He's 8 months. I use to bring him everyday in the woods with me to feed my hog in the pen but he showed no interest in the pig. Maybe 1 or 2 barks from outside the pen. I quit taking him about 3 months ago. Any suggestions as to when and how to start him would be appreciated. I have a spot in Mississippi that I can work him with another catch dog but that won't be later till the fall. He will be about a year then. I have a barr about 150 in a 8 x 16 pen. Just need a little guidance . Also awhile back there was a post that mentioned some sort of exercise or workout you could do to prevent head shaking and re gripping. I searched but can't find it. |

Had same situation showed two game pits hog they ran from it. Threw her in small horse trailer with hog and she had no choose.

Show him a small pig get him interested in it an then when he gets a year old show him a hog with some attitude an I'm sure he will catch

The stock trailer treatment will work if he doesn't show much interest.
You may have to let him hear a pig squeal to make his switch flip, but if the Barr is the only thing available, tape his mouth shut and maybe hobble the front legs to help him out. I doubt the dog needs much help though. Just watch his mouth, when his grown dog teeth are fully in go let him catch. This is just me though.

Have had bulldogs my whole life and some turn on real early some you have to wait on. And a lot of times its like a switch one day off the next day on. I'm pretty sure he will turn on, some are just late starters. But I'm sure some of the other ways that were mentioned might work to get him started quicker. |

Catching is the easy part , like I said on here time and time again , handle is the most important , this takes lot of work and time , more than a baby for months , this dog was bred to hold on , only will take a few minutes to catch , months of Experiences ,dogs , people , kids , ect to teach handle , I believe catching a hog is the least of your worrys , handle first in my book , what a beautiful dog , he's a boss , don't rush him , be a good pack leader , no hand games

The guy that give us the pup was telling us today that the litter mates to our dog are VERY dog aggressive.
None of them went to hunters except ours. I let ours out with my cur dogs about 3 or 4 times a week since
we got him and have had no issues. A couple times he got to playing rough and the older dogs put him in his place. Bob what do you mean by no hand games?
