I am wanting to build a large bay pen probably 2 or 3 acres and my question is to the people that have built/have one. Do yall think that field fence would hold up to big hogs this is going to be more of a holding pen than a bay pen but i might do some moch hunts to train some puppies. I am going to make it 7-8 feet tall.I am wanting to use field fence because to use cattle panels would cost a fortune. Any advice or thoughts would help thanks.

Get the heaviest guage wire or get high tensel game fence n stretch it tight. Run u a strand of barbed wire at the bottom n u shouldnt hav an issue, especially if u aint gonna pressure them by workin dogs frequently. It should hold unless u got some hogs that just wont stay penned

Field fence is fine for most hogs. Haven't had any big boars in mine. I don't think field fence would stop a determined big boar. I fenced in 3 acres. Only problem I have is dang pine trees dying and falling on the fence.

I fenced in 25 acres with the 47" field fence. At first I ran a hot wire on the bottom but it kept shorting out, every time a weed or stick touched it. Quit using that & I have had only one shoat go under. A word of advise, if you put a few hogs in 3 acres, it will not be long & they will have the bottom clear of underbrush & it will be a sight race. I only keep one hog in my 25 acre pen & it stays nice & thick. I also only want running hogs in mine. I have a small bay pen if I want to introduce some pups to a hog.
