Sounds like you need to work with him on handle. He may be what some call a hard dog, but even those with the right help can see the light and will learn whos alpha. All my males started early on hogs, and once knowing what their job was and had a handle stopped a lot of the puppy behavior. My female I have now is just over a year and you would think she was a 6 mth old puppy the way she acts. Hell shes a cull in my book but good family dog so she has a home as a pet. A lot maybe maturaty issues, but start with putting a handle on him and showing him whos boss.

I dont know much about dogo's other than what i've read on this site. There was a thread not to long ago talkin about the age and timeframe that dogo's fully mature, i can't find it now but it wasnt even a week ago i dont think. There are quite a few dogo owners on here, hopefully they will speak up.

I have a male that's exactly the opposite. when he was a pup I would slap him pinch him pick them punch never showed any aggression at all. never grouled never showed his teeth never bit never anything. to top it off he never played like a puppy normally does he would just sit there all day long. my wife called him a dud. then I showed him a hog. first time I heard him bark and show his teeth. well kinda bark not a very good bark. I've never hog hunted until I got him. I try to go as much as I can but still that's only maybe a dozen times a year. but honestly he doesn't get excited for much of anything.

I can't tell from your post exactly what your problem is? Narrow it down a bit and I will try and help you.

Ok on his teeth, asking when can i use him full time catching in the woods, and not screw his teeth up.and about dog,iam asking at wat age give are take do they mature? Every thing he does is wide open.only time ive seen him calm is wen he is caught on pig during mock hunts, and while he eats.thanks.

I start sending my young dogs to caught hogs in the field at 9-10 months. At 11 months I start to send them first with finished dog right behind. By 12-14 months they should be good as main line dog if they have had enough catches under their belt.

Teeth should be real solid at 12 months.

You should think of a dogo as a straight catch cur dog. They should have quite a bit of hunt drive and really want to run and hunt. Some are dead serious early on but some can be playful like what you are describing. I try and let my young ones run down to hunt/run  with my curs all I can to burn off that energy in a productive way and teach they to go look. A pup like that will not do well on leash, they want to hunt.

My older female is still "wide open" no matter what she is doing. Drop her alone or with company and she will hunt smooth off the garmin in nothing flat.

Nice pup, he is a big one. When he gets grown you will really enjoy how a dog of his size can control a good boar.

my dogo just turned 2 and still acts like a puppy sometimes .  has a great handle and cool as a cucumber untill you drop him out to hunt or show him a hog then its like somebody flips a switch !  a lot of people bash dogos but ive had good luck with mine and wouldnt trade him for anything .

Summer time is tough because you will heat stroke a dog before you make them tired, but it sounds like to me that he just needs a lot of exercise, a stung hand, and that he is still a pup. I have had dogos like you are describing, and I have had some that are laid back until they are hunting. The ones like you describe take a pretty firm hand, and a lot of domination.

Where are you located?

I just got my first one this year and he is 6 months old right now and wound up like a nine day clock!! My plans were just to use him as a lead in catch dog, just as I do my pits. Do some of you guys actually hunt yours out with your cur dogs or buy them self?
