I have a four month old double dew claw bmc and was wandering about getting the surgery to remove them
Just wandering what peoples opinion on dew claws or no dew claws was. Any advice would be great.

Sometimes you'll never have an issue with 'em, but depending on your terrain, they can get ripped/torn/snagged. When they do, they bleed a lot usually. A lot of folks just leave 'em be, but if/when I ever have any litters born and they have 'em I go ahead and remove them when they're a couple days old just to be done with it.

I was watching a youtube video on a bird dog breeder. It was showing how important it is to leave the dew claws ON. He had his dogs fall in a frozen lake and the ones with on were able to grip and pull them selves out. I know it does not really effect me(never gets that cold), but it did get me thinking.

My 4 year old dog has double dew claws and they've never been a problem.

i had a thread just like this one... from what i gathered never turn down a chance to hunt behind a six toed dog... my thread is in the hog dog section under weird, theres a lot of good advice there
