I'd say a East TX Yeller dog is a Yeller cur dog.
But a TX cur dog comes in more colors then yellow, and I'm not talking about the yellow ones with papers a mile long attached to em, when I think of cur dogs.

The reason for the question is I have a yella male his mom was weatherford Ben and his daddy is an east Texas yeller cur. Are they suppose to be a better dog than a blackmouth?

A good dog is a good dog no matter how they're bred. Suppose to and ain't suppose to don't really mean much when it comes to hog dogs in my opinion, you'll be disappointed and surprised more often then not.

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog... A hunting dog is born not made...

The ones you have the most hope in will disappoint you where the mutts that straggle up will probably make a damn good dog. Expect the worse and hope for the best.

I understand. The reason for the question I would like to clone my male dog and since I can't I'm going to start line breeding to get as close to him as I can. I was just interested if they were the same line of dogs

When I hear Texas Cur I think of a stocky built cur dog. The first time I heard that phrase used was when I asked what a particular dog was on the very first dog hunt I went on...about 85 or so I guess. This dog was a red brindle dog, big head but didn't look bulldog crossed. Strong shoulders, deep chest but not extremely wide....squared off flanks. Just a stout looking dog but a definite cur look as opposed to a bulldog cross.

when the BMC regestres first started up they had the BMC dogs that were yellow with a black mask registered as YBM CURS and all the brindles were registered as southern curs...even if from the same litter...
to me a Texas Cur is a cur dog of unknown lineage...no registration papers but a cur dog...quite a few cur dogs nowadays have hound, mt cur, bird dog bred in them...a Texas Cur is that mix in my opinion and these dogs are bred mainly for hunting and or stock dogs...

East Texas Cur used to mean a dog used to work stock, cows and hogs in the big woods. They hadn't had the hunt, nose, finding ability and bottom bred out of them. They made a name for themselves on their own merit not by advertising and fancy papers. Men bred for the long haul and bred balanced dogs that were pretty good in all departments. They selected for the traits they needed to improve within the same family of dogs and didn't rely on cross breeding for the quick fix. Now days people are in a big hurry and cross breed way too much to achieve a goal. The term was also used to separate them from the registered dogs which some lines may as well be a different breed. The tree dog lines especialy, have had every thing in the world bred into them to get them to tree better. I don't have dogs anymore but the old East Texas Cur served me well and are in the pedigree of just about all the good lines of stock dogs that can still be found and they were not all yellow.

East Texas Yeller Cur: Definition ........is a Yeller dog WITH a tail that cannot read nor write. So papers are rarely found in their possession. A blue collar kinda dog that works all day without aspirations of promotions or global glory. Just simply gets the job done time and time again. They typically inhabit the dense vietnamese like pine canopy of the Eastern regions of Texas and are sited frequently by avid East Texas Yeller Dog Watchers. Considered by many as mythical creatures.....coveted by the breeders that raise them..rarely selling to outsiders for fears of the lines becoming bobtailed, squatty, hocklegged, short ranged, loss of smell, diminished trailing abilities and educated Sometimes receiving certification papers that results in snobbish behavior and rediculous asking prices. Texas Cur: Definition ............ ALL THEM OTHER ONES !

Well I guess my dog is a TX cur because he will bay and catch a hog or cow and he will take care of my kids. I'm sure if he needed to he would whoop a bear.
