There are many variables that factor into the answers for this question... I need to start hunting where the 95 percenters are hunting!!! I hunt mostly rough mountain terrain in heavily dogged areas, very hard for any dogs to shut runners down in these areas. If I hunt crops then I expect 100%...wheres all the 10%-80% packs? ?? can i ask you a question? why do you say if you hunt crops you expect 100%?

i think because most of the crops we hunt the hogs dont go to far they all fat an bay up pretty easy alot easyer in the crops then out in the rough rocky country

Many variables....sounds like hunting pressure plays a MAJOR role.

Boys....I originally stated that I thought the terrain was one of the contributing factors affecting your percentages. I stand by that 100%. Went out with TxSteve and Swamphunter to their place in Strawn on a last minute deal. Nice little lease but some pretty rugged hills/mountains surrounding it. The pigs have definitely learned to use this terrain to their advantage. If the dogs don't stop them between mid way up the mountain or on top...there is a high fence they get through to escape.
They can be caught on this place but the key is to keep them down in the valley. They have feeders down there and water....we filled the feeders while we were there. Gonna try it again mid week and see how it goes.
On this place....finding the hogs when they're in the valley is key. If your timing is off your percentages drop dramatically.
Thanks for the invite boys...looking forward to next time.

I'm not speaking of just my dogs...I havnt hunted by myself in months. I've hunted with Blake most often over the past few months and we havnt had a dry run in a WHILE...so the dogs are getting their chances. Hunting these crops...it seems like we're hitting a lot of sounders so it's kind of hard to judge...dogs may lose one hog but pick up another.
The hogs that have went a good distance it seems like we seal the deal on usually. That last hunt we caught one after about 500 yards but those two big sows took us about 900 yards more and we couldn't close the deal there. I'd say that was handler error though...the dogs had them stopped.
I'd say over the last 6 months were up around 85-90% easy.
Your reply doesn't count lol there's too many hogs at Blakes place ..we've only had one dry run out there and they bay up way to easy there. Hey!!!! As Dale would say "Can't have hog dogs without hogs"....HAHA.....I will argue the other side of this though....If the hogs bay up way easy, then does that mean that the hogs don't learn to run from the dogs? You all know that I don't let my place "rest" and it get's dogged (only by me and who I take) A LOT!!! So, it is either really good dogs, or the theory that hogs learn to run from a dog, is just a theory.

blake i think you got good dogs an lots of new hogs coming in to , so i think its a combonation factor , some areas breed runners some dont ,
plus if you got tater after you .... might as well just stop an get caught haha
