Been thinking on this and here is what I think. There is not just one reason you lose hogs or one reason you catch hogs. I believe The things that determine your percentages on caught hogs vs. lost hogs are kind of like an equation or formula. Something like this maybe:

Hog Personality (Runner/Fighter)  X Dog Work = Caught or Lost Hog
          Terrain That You Hunt                           Handler

If your equation is not working out or you can't "prove" the formula.....it's because something has to be changed to make it work or be proven.

Then again....what do I know....I failed Algebra

sometimes too many dogs out...sometimes not enough...

we needed a RCD...

we needed a catch dog...

too hot...the dogs fell out because of the heat...

the dogs couldn't keep up in the thick briars/vegetation...

can't get to the bay/caught hog...

the dogs split up and took their own hog...

the dogs gave it up...they need rest/feed...

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog...

You are right in your calculation you miss on one of them you ain't gonna catch the hog.

Let's don't forget easy hogs don't make good dogs.

So I think we need these runers to train our dogs on. You chase them for a while then go to a place where the hogs don't run and you think you got the best dogs around. A good running hog will put you in your place. JMO
