Start Date: January 30th, 2013 (midnight)
Weigh-In:   February 2nd. Weigh-in starts at 11am and the line will close at 2pm.  No one allowed in line  after 2pm. No exceptions.

Location:    Registration and weigh-in location has changed this year.  Registration will be held at the Quitman Chamber of Commerce located at the Jim Hogg Park on South Main in Quitman.  Registration will be January 30th from 5pm to 7pm.  Weigh-in will also be at the park.  Contestants will turn off of South Main beside Dairy Queen onto Richards street and then take a right onto McCallister street.  This will take you straight into the rear of the park where weigh-in will be held.

Early Registration: We are having early registration this year by mail only.  Early registration will begin January 1 and end January 19th. Entries MUST be postmarked between Jan1 and Jan 19 to be accepted.  Make checks or money orders payable to Quitman FFA Alumni.  Please do not send cash for early registration. You will be required to list an email address so we can send conformation of your entry.  Mail entries to       Quitman FFA Alumni   Po Box 1062   Quitman, Tx 75783.

Rule Changes: Live hog division.....if a hog is unable to walk off the trailer and onto the scales without assistance, the hog will NOT be counted in the contest and the market buyer will NOT buy that hog. Team members will be responsible for unloading their own hogs and getting them on the scales.
Dead hog division.....back by popular demand, this year we WILL weigh every hog that a team brings in for a total weight instead of the team having to pick what they believe to be their 3 heaviest hogs.

The city has waved all vendor fees for use of the park for this event so if anyone is interested in setting up a booth, please let me know via the email or phone number listed below.

If you would like more information, email me at qvfd_blalock@yahoo.com or text me at 903-638-3224.  Also, LIKE us on facebook under Quitman FFA Alumni Hog Hunt to keep up with what is going on during the year.

The Alumni really appreciates the support we have received over the past three years.  This hunt funds the scholarships the Alumni gives out to graduating seniors each year. To date we have given almost $8,000 in local scolarships.  Again, thank you for the support of our program and tomorrow's leaders.

One more change for this year...Places paid out will depend on number of entries this year. There will be 2 places paid out in each division for 20 or less entries. 21 or more entries there will be a third place added.

This year all contestants will be entered to win a Savage Axis chambered in .308.  Must be present to win.  All spectators will be able to buy chances to win a second Savage Axis .308 for $5 per chance or 5 for $20.

The Alumni met this past Monday night and voted to dissolve the "Alumni" and re-form under the Young Farmers of The State of Texas.  The group will be operating the way we always have just under a different name and EIN.  Just wanted to let everyone know that if you see a name change, do not worry. We will continue the hunt each year as long as we are seeing positive results.  Thanks!!

Nothing is 100% set in stone.  Always open to suggestion. What do you think would work better? In my mind, the earliest we could allow hunting to start would be 5pm on Thursday. All early registrants will already be in and traditional registration is from 5 to 7.  Let me hear from you. Thanks!

LOL!! 10-4. I was talking to another one of our members and since you brought that up, we may start hunting as soon as traditional registration is over.  Whatever we decide will be in the rules and general info mail out and at the on-site registration.  Did you get my PM I sent you?

Is this a hog dog only tournament? Just want to know what I might be up against? Trappers? Gun Hunters? etc? What about lie detectors?

If you are interested, send my your email address and I'll email you the general info, rules and registration form. It is an 'anything goes' hunt.  Two divisions.  Live and dead.  This is the 4th year and to my knowledge, the live hog division has been dogs only even though they are allowed to use traps.  The dead hog division is any legal means of taking a hog.

I am curious as to how you know that the hogs were trapped during the hunt hours? Who won last year, a dogger or a trapper? What about a polygraph?

This is a 'dead' or 'alive' contest.  You register to bring in either live hogs or dead hogs.  I don't know of any team that has hunted the live hog division that has used traps however they can if they choose to.  We have tried for 3 years to do our best at making everyone happy and it's just not possible. Live hogs over 80 pounds and approved by the market buyer will be purchased at weigh-in.  If a situation arises that we need to have a polygraph done we will certainly do it. There will not be a polygraph test on-site.  I would hope that with this being a fund raiser contest for our local FFA chapter scholarships that folks would be fair and honest.  There will be added prizes this year along with the money.  Also, all hunters that are registered in the contest will have their name entered in a drawing for a Savage Hog Hunter chambered in .308.  We greatly appreciate the support that this hunt has received over the past 3 years and pray that it continues to grow. To date we have given roughly $8,000 in local scholarships.
