It would be a hard road at first, but its a doable task. I think it would be best if texas was an independent country.

It will never happen. They refused to allow it for the states in 1862 they sure wouldn't allow it in 2013.

I wish it would happen and it could but would be tough. It's been tried by several states before.

No way.  Think about a couple issues such as border patrol (not only against Mexico, what about US States?  Are US citizens in LA and OK going to have a passport to go to TX? US will be forced to pull out Federal organizations such as Ft Hood and Ft Sam Houston.  What about colleges and their tuition/scholarship programs.

Only reason I would support it would be to TX can take A&M Manziel back.  I don't know what the SEC was thinking when they let A&M and Mizzu join.

we wont know if we don't try. 237yrs ago many colonists said no way america could be free from the tyranny king George, but within 20yrs there was a new government and free men. now we have our own tyrants and those who side with them Islamic radicals. people would rather be slaves than be free as long they can get a free ride. id give my 80% disability and my gi bill education, just to be a free texas. take all the free loaders, cut off their food stamps and any other free-be they can receive, and either starve them into submission to leave texas or support her. aint nobody said it was gonna be cake walk, but neither was freeing america and forming a new government. all the citizens have to do is try, whats the harm in trying unless they are scared of loosing their free government ride and handouts and if that's the case, they can take a hike.

The only way it will happen is a result of a large scale civil war. At that point the government will turn all of t resources against the uprising. It will be squashed before it starts. Think about it prior to the civil war states had the power not the government. The biggest advantage to be held was manpower. The north utilized the immigrants coming in to bolster there numbers and give them the manpower to continue the fight and eventually win. Today it's technology. How much technology does the states posses. The guard may have some howitzers and a few tanks but the government possesses far superior technology. Line up ur tanks and they will strike from 10k ft with guided missiles. Or from ships at sea with missiles. Everyone thinks Americans would never fire on fellow Americans. Hate to break it to u but there are enough foreign nationals part of the us military to be a size able force. Also with very little propaganda and constant hammering the rebels will become the bad guy that threatens there way of life and all this country stands for. Also the first argument made is we have these weapons on military bases in our state. These soldiers will join us. Nope not gonna happen. At any sign of possible uprising to the level of a threat all equipment and personnel will be secured either by withdrawing to a more secure location or by sending in troops from areas outside the threat zone.

In the end the only possible way to accomplish any where near a civil war would be for 75% of the country to decide to do so without anyone getting the least bit of info it's coming. A secret can't stay a secret between friends much less 75% of the country.

the guard and reserve components have the exact same technology and weapons as their active duty counter parts. its not like active duty has the m-4s and guard has toy cap guns, or active duty has hellfire missiles and the guard has bottle rockets, its all the exact same stuff, guard may have less equipment and weapons, but its the exact same stuff. there may be more of them, but there was more british soldiers than continental soldiers and militia, but the colonists still won their freedom and independence. yaw can stay bent over, taking it from the us gov, but I would rather be free, or die trying. freedom isn't free, it is earned,

I think that it could be done.. and be done without going to war. Texas has plenty of wealth, natual resources,  and industry to be independent. We also have enough people in the U.S military who could become itergrated into a Texas military. Texas has most of the gulf coast also. I could see problems as far as social security but that ihas all been stolen by our government any way. We could start a new similar program.

If you click on the link that ive provided there is a lot of good imfo. about this subject on there.  A lot of people, including wealthy people are getting on board with this idea.

That is a whole lotta border to secure.  Lots of unintended consequences in going down that path.

I disagree.  Those are U.S. properties and they would retain and staff them.  Think Guantanamo, or Europe or Japan or Korea or Iraq.  We have bases in those countries and they are U.S. sovereignty.  We didn't ask.  They were war bounty.  We staff all of them with soldiers and weaponry.  Those large military bases would be retained by the U.S.

But the reality is none of this is ever going to happen.  No politician outside of Texas would vote for it.  To try to secede without congressional agreement would result in another war.  Stop for a minute and think what your daily life would be like if there was a war  ...  in Texas.  The economy would be devastated.  Your personal life would be drastically altered.  Education systems would be disrupted.  You would have military law and soldiers patrolling the streets.  So, you couldn't work, stores would be empty, everything you know and take for granted in your daily life would be disrupted.  Hmmmm.  No thank you.

RL you make good valid points. I just think that people are fed up with the direction that our country is taking.  I still cant believe that Clinton was on the verge of being impeached for having an affair and they cant impeach Obama for completely disregardIng the constitution.

A simpler vulnerability.  Have you ever lived through a hurricane?  Days or weeks without electricity shuts down a city.

All the U.S. military would have to do is take control of the power plants.  No electricity  ...  no economy  ...  no computers  ...  disrupted communications.  Then they simply eliminate cell phone service.  Whoa!.  Big impact to everyone.  If they controlled the major interstates they could effectively shut down not only commerce but the access/delivery of food, fuel, medicine, etc.

The battles, if any  ...  the disruption  ...  would be here, not the rest of the U.S.  We tolerate wars  (Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan) to some degree because they weren't/aren't fought on our streets.  That would not be the case.

We are a lot more vulnerable than they are.

Yeah, we all get frustrated with politicians.  Federal level.  State level.  They all like to create their fiefdoms.

As to impeachment, I had voted for Clinton but I wrote my congressman demanding his impeachment.

Every president since Reagan has consolidated power and likely violated the spirit of the constitution, if not an impeachable violation.  Think Iran-Contra.  Or Iraq.  I know I get annoyed with how both parties, when in power, like to circumvent laws they find inconvenient.

Pendulums swing.  We all get caught up in it.  After 911, the Rs gave U.S. government so many, many powers over us  ...  that today we feel are way over the line  ...  and even they rail against.  But at the time  ...  the pendulum was swung way over to over-protecting us.  It is a tough balancing act.
