Maybe when she aint hunting, she knows there aint no pigs, so she's just conserving her energy!

I had a male dog like this. One day jam up the next he mite do good but not up to par. But the days he lookd good he was badass.i can't stand stuff like that. I don't like wondering if today ther on or not. So I killed him.have never regretted just gives u more time to hunt one that wants to do it every day.

do you let her run loose at home?
or let her run a big yard?

if so, start keeping her tied or in a smaller size kennel. alot of dogs that run loose at home end up like you are describing. they hunt inconsistent because they learn they can do what they want, when they want, instead of being kept on a "work schedule" and tie out rotation.

I have heard of dogs just basically stop hunting for a while then one day it was on like donky kong. The ones I heard about were around 4. This may be the case or this could be her being a smart butt.

That's funny I have the opposite problem! We have a dog that hunts better when he gets to run loose around the yard...weird dogs.

Hey wild child!

I've got a gyp that does the exact same thing... I've had her since she was a pup and she was one of our first dogs so I am probably more patient w her for that reason. What I have been able to try and narrow down w her is her heat cycles- typically about a month to two months before she comes into heat she won't do jack diddly squat. It is very frustrating. Then she starts to turn back on about a month to two months after she comes out of heat.

When she is "on" she outstrikes our old, trusty finished dog. But for whatever reason, it's like a switch in her is flipped off. I've thought maybe we handled her too much when she was a pup- have thought through all kinds of things, really but it's usually framed around when she's coming into heat.

Like I said, frustrating but she's a great dog when she's nose-to-ground and workin. Don't know if we will ever have room in our yard for another dog like her though... It is a chore to work around and it throws off our pack for a solid couple months.

I had a dog like that once. He was awesome but if there were no hogs you could forget him hunting!
