Depends on the state. In AR a license is not required but u must be eligible for one. Basically if u can't get a license u can't hunt. I believe LA requires u buy a small game license. Atleast that's what I was told I needed when I crossed the border a couple weeks ago.

Texas - Feral hogs may be killed or trapped year-round, day or night, by a landowner or anyone with the landowner’s permission. Hunters do not need a hunting license to kill feral hogs on private land, but anyone who has had his or her hunting license revoked may not hunt them. All general regulations for hunting safety should be observed.

You don't need one in Texas unless you are on a guided hunt.

I thought some of these answers seemed...well...I was always under the impression you had to have one.
Unless I was looking at something out dated...this is straight from TPWD.
Exotic Animals and Fowl
Exotic animal refers to grass-eating or plant-eating, single-hoofed or cloven-hoofed mammals that are not indigenous or native to Texas and are known as ungulates, including animals from the deer and antelope families that landowners have introduced into this state. Includes, but is not limited to feral hog, Aoudad sheep, Axis deer, Elk, Sika deer, Fallow deer, Blackbuck antelope, Nilgai antelope, and Russian boar. Exotic fowl refers to any avian species that is not indigenous to this state, including ratites (emu, ostrich, rhea, cassowary, etc.).
There are no state bag or possession limits or closed seasons on exotic animals or fowl on private property. It is against the law to:
Hunt an exotic without a valid hunting license. Hunt an exotic on a public road or right-of-way. Hunt an exotic without the landowner's permission. Possess an exotic or the carcass of an exotic without the owner's consent.
Penalty: A person who violates these laws commits an offense that is a Class A Parks and Wildlife Code misdemeanor ($500-$4000 and/or up to one year in jail).
The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) regulates the movement of feral swine for disease-control purposes. For more information please call TAHC at (800) 550-8242 or visit the TAHC Web site.

yes in texas you must be licensed to hunt hogs , unless you have a written statement from a land owner or lessee that you are doing depredation work for them . when doing depredation work you can kill the animal but not posses or remove it from the property [ that is a waist I know ] without being licensed . when In doubt get a license , and they do way more than allow you to hunt , they support and maintain hunting and fishing in texas .

You don't need one in Texas unless you are on a guided hunt.
Unless you are on private land, out of sight out of mind, it will be cheaper on your bank acct to buy a license. The law must have changed or your hunting illegal. Back to the original topic, instead of asking individuals, where the law os perceived differently, it would be better to use your internet connection and look the law up for yourself. It will save you a headache with the warden in the long run, plus where you got your hunting/fishing license for the rest of your outdoor adventures gives the annual hunting guide away, even if you lost the first 1
