I've got her all set up to drop really soon. Does it matter if I keep her box full of hay? Or should I use an old blanket? Or does it even matter from y'all's experience? Thanks in advance for replies......

We've used both with puppies. I've heard hay can give them allergies but blankets are a "threat" to suffocate. Either work Just my opinion.

I use nothing the first couple of days then go with straw hay.
Just pack it/flatten it good then set the puppies back in. Mamma will dig out a hole.
Any small bedding...hay included...and you have a slight chance of pups choking on a piece of it. (I've never lost one)
Blankets...there is the suffocation factor.
Heat lamps are good but you've got to be careful on overheating mamma and pups.

Heat lamps. Wood shaving and straw get in their mouth. As stated anything but a wood floor is hard to clean. I have a bitch due soon. I have 1 heat lamp and plan to add another as a back up. If the box is big enough , the pups can move around to regulate their body temperature.

That's a good idea...I'd probably use the thermostat for both if I was to use one again. Have to remember that.

I built these boxes recently and I LOVE them. I put a towell over the door to keep the gyps natural body heat in. EVERY time I check on the pups they are TOASTY! Gyp even has her nose sticking out from under towell sometimes because she is too warm. This...even in the weather were having. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You box is nicer than mine. I need to insulate mine as it's fairly cold here this week.

I used to have a box just like that. The only difference is I had a 2x4 turned sideways about 4" up off the floor so the mother could not smash them. Nice box.
