It has been pouring and in the low 40's here all day and is supposed to continue raining and dip into the 30's tonight......with that said danielle went out this evening to feed in the rain (im on the dl with a broke hip lol) anyhow one of our dogs houses finally gave up and she found him sitting in what was left of his house soaked and cold...... 10 minutes later he was moved dried off and upgraded to a penthouse barrel with a porch lol. Just a quick reminder to check on the animals with all of the bad weather we are having.....felt so bad for ol camo i (well we) completely moved him, now not only can he use his new dog house for shelter he can also get onto my back deck to stay out of the weather if need be.

Just thought id put a bug in everyone's ear.

Yessir  good advice! Just got home from Tractor Supply with a few bags of Pine to stuff all the houses again. Gives me a chance to go over everything, and check everyone's barrels over.

Good thinking bud....

I'm not kidding when I say my dogs got it pretty luxurious..... my son will actually go fluff all the hay for em---it makes him know they are nice and cozy. I'm glad all 6 dogs got it good. I'm gonna put up pics of my chicken coop(which I never bought chickens) that is  converted to a delivery room for the preg gyp....it's a sight to see. I could fit a twin size bed in there.

This is a good post. I feel like if someone has a dog they should take care of it to the best of their abilities I know for my dogs they have it pretty tuff sometimes but when they come home they have got everything except for electricity and i don't think it will be long before they have lights over there but good shelter clean water and food is a must especially for this time of year when it's cold out. Every day when i go to my kennels I look around at what I might could improve for the comfortbility of my dogs.

cedar chips and good fresh hay together in every dog house but if it drops below 30 i'll put another layer of hay an put the gates on there dog houses because I use large plastid travel crates as dog houses so I can lock them up when it rains or freezes to put them in the garage when needed!

I went and bought some tarps today and hung up across the front of my shed which my kennels are under to block the north wind off and it's pretty cozy under there without that wind blistering. When it gets a little colder im going to hang some felt over front of the dog houses to keep the warm air in there to. People just don't realize it's a full time job taking care of dogs if you do it right

I guess my dogs are stupid. Lol. I put all the chips and hay in houses. Turned facing south. It was 28 the other morning when I got up and half of them were sleeping on the ground. What sense does that make. They did get in the houses when it rained tho. After a few days of it they are staying in there houses a lil more. All have the offset igloo's.

5 bags of cedar shavings for 10 dog houses.  ,,,,Finished my second barrel this evening. Dang dogs pull the black vents caps on top of the igloo houses off, so rain just pours in through the hole in top of igloo where the screw in black vent used to be, so they all gettin new barrels.  I did figure out i can put that black vent back on top, (the ones that aint been eaten)then get another igloo that dont have a vent anymore and put it ON TOP  of the doghouse with the vent thats left and the dogs cant  get to the vent . Dogs sure can tear up a stinkin 100$ igloo dog house!,,,,,  I  put a tarp up for the pen pigs for a lil cover and wind break too. Even my pigs is spoiled

You guys are talkin about doin stuff I just take for granted after keepin dogs 35 years here in Washington State. I have had a run of house chewers years ago and never could afford those igloos. Mine are 3/4 plywood and I can make 4 of em with 5 sheets a plywood and a few 2x4's. I have to turn my doors to the NE cause our wind comes from the SW. Good luck keepin them warm and dry.
