I have a strike dog that is pretty dang solid. She jus recently started barking behind a running hog an thats the one hole in this dog. Do yall think a shock collar is worth trying to shut her mouth on a broke hog?

What's the problem? The dog is hot on the hog's tail... does it matter if it's silent, barking or singing a song?

Get ahold of a cow bell and to it to her collar.
Is she not catching these hogs now that she's open?

I use to not like for them to do that either but now if it's a good dog I'll feed one that barks a little. I wouldn't put a shock collar on that dog it might keep her from running a hog period. Prob do way more bad than good jmo

Mike haven't you heard a dog can't even get close to a hog if its open on track!!! LOL I have never and nor will ever believe the silent dogs catch more hogs!!! Believe me, I've spent a lot of time behind both and caught tons of hogs with both. My dogs can carry a mega-phone if they want, just as long as the can bay hogs. But to answer your question, I think it would help. I wouldn't burn her up, just low voltage!

Barking on trail (before strike) I can't handle....after a break...doesn't bother me. Hog already knows the dogs are there, lol.

I really think shocking her may seriously screw her up, once the hog has seen her noise dont mean chit, that hog knows she's there wether she is barkin or not. I wouldnt worry about it if she's still producing pork.

I also believe that shocking the dog after the hog breaks will probably make her stop running a hog once it breaks...

I hunt with an old man that's got some slobber mouthed buzz saw actin lil mountian curs and they all bark on a trail but one is mouthy as hell. And bayed plenty if hogs with them. Don't matter if they open on a trail just as long as they finish it!

X2 semi open after the hog breaks and shows hogs or works his or her butt off.. sounds like a hog dog! I argue all the time about semi open dogs an silent dogs running together doesn't make our train the silent dogs to bark on trail !.. what's yalls opinion on that?

ITS ALL IN YOUR HEAD!!!!!!! Most will never admit it but this man is gonna trade off a great sounding dog because the people he's hunted with or around have pumped this "crap" in his ears since he started. I have one question and I'd like an honest answer. How many open mouth dogs have you followed and how long? I had this same mentality for 15 years, if it made a peep it was gone! Looking back, I got rid of some nice dogs. I can't count the times I ran hogs all night with a dog not making a sound, just bay a few barks then break again all night. Some hog just run and there's nothing we can do about it, no matter what our ego tells us. Rough dogs, silent dogs, hounds, or curs there's no solution. Yea I know.......... Sometimes this works and sometimes that works but don't waste your breathe on me I been doing this too long. My suggestion is to keep the dog and learn to appreciate what she can do, and that is bay hogs
I believe the post says "looking for opinions"!! That's mine and I stand FIRM by it!!!

I would have to agree. I want a dog that hunts. A dog that will stay with a hog. As long as those points are filled wide open or silent don't matter. Heck I like a lil hound song from time to time. Shotgun Arkansas

I ain't gonna argue one way or another on whether an open dog will push hogs. I'll just say flat out...I DONT LIKE a dog that yelps on a track before it's even seen a pig. It just grates on my nerves. Now...a hound that has a purty bawl mouth... That's a different story. I only own 1 hound, a Bluetick male, and he is young...so far he's only opened up hogs when they broke. He did play the me too game when a young gyp opened up on a deer track one hunt but I tell you....I didn't mind it....I LOVE his Bawl. I just can't stand most yelping curs.
