ive had some problems with this in the past, ive found out a lot that when I run pups I run one pup at a time with my older dogs and let the older dogs show them what trail to take and so on. my older dogs wont go near a deer lol so I think that's my best training method for pups in my opinion

I know theres other ways that work but in my opinion you nailed. Best thing you can do is only run 1 pup with 1 or 2 solid adults at a time, they will learn. Good luck!

You can also take deer glands or deer legs & wrap them good with wire & hook them to a hot wire. Let the pups come up to it by theirselves & shock themselves & that sure discourages them from the smell of deer. Will not do a thing to a dog that already runs them but for pups that are just starting out, it helps.

Method works well til you start hunting an independent pup. I have one that usually will peel off after a few hundred yards and will have something up and moving quick and wants to run and bay his own, sometimes a deer . I'm working on him, I'm fixing to introduce him to the barrel method.

you there are several other ways that I have tried as well but I feel like this way is so the most efficient way, the hotwire works as well if all else fails

Cajun has got the point nailed.
Other than a good shock collar and correct methods of using it....
Be a fast runner....strategic path interventionist....and.....a no conscious leash weilder.
Or just settle in for longer and more glamours deer races.
Good luck bud.

Once they start running deer you have to put tritronics on them . Broke my first pup I ever had off before he ever saw a deer with glands and a whip.

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog... A hunting dog is born not made...
