I was watching an old episode of American hogger the other night and one of the girls lost her garmin handheld. Much to my surprise it seemed the other was tracking the lost hand held. I didn't know this was a possibility.
Anyone know if you can do this and how?

Haven't seen the episode, but I bet they were using the map feature on the second Garmin and just following their old route looking for it as they went.

the handhelds are a rcvr only, not a rcvr/xmtr like the collar, there for tracking the handhelds are virtually impossible. I don't think the wardens can track the handhelds. if the manufacture cant track it, how would the wardens do it? again, the handheld does not have a transmitter in it, so there is no signal to coming from the unit to track. as far as them finding the other unit, yes, they were back tracking their route with the other unit.

The handheld does communicate with the collars. How else could you change the collar id? On the alphas you can send a text message to another alpha or turn your collar light on as well as change collar id's

how close does the 2 units have to be to change the collar id? Iv changed the id when I was at the farthest, a few yds from the collar. if the units had a full transmitter, then the manufacture could track it like a cell phone can be tracked. the collar n handheld may communicate with ea other, but the handheld does not "transmit" a signal that can be intercepted/tracked.

That doesn't track the handheld, that makes the collar flash so u can tell which one it is.
