Just wondering anyone hunting around 6 mile. Just heard from some guys I work with telling me about a collared dog chasing hogs that was shot by a member on the lease. Bad ordeal he got charges pressed against him and also kicked of the lease (well deserved). Just wanted to make sure folks stay consciousness about deer season is still going on be careful with your dogs.

I wonder what he was charged with? Sad deal. It is risky hunting during deer season.

From what I understand he charged with cruelty to animals, and two other charges but not sure of what they are

Aww now that's sad.....That's why unless we're on private land, we don't run during deer season.

I hate to hear this and the hope the charges stick. Saying that the dog owner has no one to blaim but himself..running dogs during deer season is a big risk and that's something you take a chance on. Not saying I don't run during deer season but  i do it mostly at night or during the week on places where I know there is no one around deer hunting. I also will mainly just use short range dogs if I think there is a chance dogs will go somewhere they shouldn't. I don't know the story and this could happen to anyone. if it happened to me I would def press charges but also know in my mind it was my fault.. I just get tired of always defending our sport from people who have no sense and hunt public land or small places during the prime deer hunting season when they know who's out....

This is why deer season is off season for me on hogs. Gun season last almost 2 months here. I deer hunt and get my honey do's done as much as possible so when season goes out I can play.

I agree. I just read another post on fb about 3 legal deer hounds shot in Alabama and charges being done.

The instance at 6 mile was bad because the hunter even called president to try and get his dog back but the guy on the lease had already shot the dog.

I see it as the guy paid his lease dues just like every1 else on the lease and if there is nothing in the lease rules saying no dogs, he has just as much rights running hogs as the goat hunters have gunning or shafting deer. Now, its common courtysy NOT to run during daylight hrs, but the goat hunter knew better than to shoot the dog, he was just being d!€¥head. Paid leases are for all who paid their dues n public is just that, public, for all people legal to hunt. Courtosy though should prevail, especially since goat season is so short compared to yr round hog season. Bc the guy shot him just for spite, i hope the charges stick, he is found guilty and they put him in prison where bubba can get ahold of him for personel backdoor shooting lessons. But like cwhite said, the dog runner is at fault too, but was not violating lease rules or state law.
Sry to hear his dog got shot, i just had 1 get ran over bc the guy was paying attention to his phone and ran him over, so yea it sucks, but i should hav made sure all house doors were completely closed.

Charles, I think  a hunter was running dogs on the property next door. The dogs got off said property and ran infront of a hunter on the neighboring property. That hunter then shot the dogs. That is what I get from the story.

I have said it a 1000 times I have no idea how or why the state made it legal to shoot a dog that is running/baying hogs. That was attached to the law/bill that made hogs property to landowner .  You can not shoot a dog that is running a deer but you can if it is running an exotic and/or hog.

Oh ok mike, i figured he was member of the lease, but either way, the colostomy bag still didnt hav to shoot the dog. When did they pass that jacked up law? Hopefully the aholes who thought it to a good idea, those that wrote it n those that signed it into a law will catch an uncurable fast acting aids virus and, well ya know what happens to aids patients.

I won't let my dogs out during deer season it's just to risky. It's to many city people around here that have deer leases that would shoot the first dog that come through their field. I might take a puppy at night but I wait til it's completely dark and everyone else should be out of the woods.

I think your asking for it if you ruin someone's deer hunt. I wouldn't shoot someone's dog but I'd be mad as hell if they were running where they weren't supposed to and messed up my hunt. Just basic courtesy not to do that.

I pity the fool that shoots one of my dogs. I would absolutely lose my mind. Unless my dog showed aggression towards the person. Which I know my dogs would not do.

Yep, been there done that and it will piss you off to no end. I love hog hunting with dogs BUT i also love deer hunting. I consider myself to be an outdoorsman/hunter and hell most of the guys ive met off here that i consider buddies are all the same way, we all love just being out there, doesnt matter what we are chasing. I have other priorities now days that have slowed down the amout of time i get to deer hunt and as much as i love em the last damn thing i wanna see while im deer hunting is a dog, lucky for my neighbors unless i flat out see a dog take down a deer he is gonna get a pass (and i highly doubt i'll ever see that happen)
