Tie a knot around a back ankle. Lay the front opposite ankle on top of the first ankle. Tie a knot attaching the first ankle to the second. Next would be the other back ankle, knot, then other front ankle. Your using one piece of rope about 3 feet long. Can't leave them tied up too long or their feet go to sleep and they'll never walk again.

That hay string is pretty good I always save it off the bales we cut and I use that if I don't feel like may any tie ropes out of some old ropes we have around. Mule tape works but is not the best option in my opinion

Get two pieces bout as long as one had to the other streched out. Take it and double it take the loop part over any leg then take the other two ends over and under pull tight go back around and tie a square knot do the same to other and do it in a criss cross and tie where they meet I have used this method for a long time

Exactly how I tie. Now if I am by myself, I use a pieces about 6" long & I have it over my wrist. When I leg the hog, I slip the noose end over the back leg, & half hitch the other back leg & tie him off to a tree. Then I get the dogs off & tie up the front end.

A really big hog can break hay string, even doubled.

On big boars I use handcuffs just because their quick and you can leave the hog standing up with a bulldog on him to get two legs cuffed together if your by your self and trust your bulldog to not let go. But when it's two people it don't take but a second to get a big one rolled over and get him cuffed off just kris Kross the handcuffs and the legs and you can get up off him. The only downfall to hand cuffs is taking them off a live hog with all the kicking it will tear your hands up. I know this is not about muletape but just thought I would share that

ok i got bored and decided to tie myself up for you. Hope you can tell.

i cut my string about 2 1/2 - 3 feet long. double it up and pull it back through itself and suck it tight behind the knot on the back leg. Then take the two loose ends go over the front leg on the same side. Split the two ends around the doubled up string suck the legs up tight together and tie a double knot..sometimes i wrap one of the loose end around the front leg twice then tie the double knot

On the hay string breaking,if tied right i do not think hay string will break, not how we tie,ive seen a few hogs in my life tied with it,never had it break,my dad and gran dad been tieing hogs over a hundred years,no breaks.thats with 300 pd barrs.just woodshogs.never tied blooded hogs.i like mule tape better.hay string is always doubled and straight off a new roll, two half hitches on ever lwg pulled tight with pig tail on each side of the half hitch were u started and finished, pulled tight ,and tied with double knot.we just dont have problems using hay string.

Ive done it just like weller.  If you want to keep the legs pulled tight and keep them together, you can take both of the free ends and loop them through the middle.  Pulls the two loose ends back towards the back leg (this brings both legs together.  Then tie your square not by taking one of the free ends and wrapping it around the doubled up portion.
