I know L3 has made a lot of changes to his line of breastplates. They are not vests as most hunters in the US are used to seeing. They protect the dog by giving him 100% unrestricked motion. He has added a 3/4 lenght plate to his line that comes to the back of the ribs, and a three layer Kevlar+poly silk that is light and tuff. All the straps are biothane, and tracker mounts come standard. He also offers free repairs to all his customers and a discount for repeat customers. The type of vest or breastplate you buy will depend on the type of dog you are using. But most of all the dog should still have 100% natural movement. If it changes the way a dog moves at all its a hindrence not protection. The only draw back with the L3 plates is they are all custom ordered and can take some time to make.

I second the L3 vest.

As far as houston leather vests they are a really good price but you get what you pay for. I have had a hog  cut through one like butter. I still have it as a reminder not to go cheap.

I've recently got the Guardian Kevlars from Ugly Dog Ranch and am very impressed with it. I will be picking up a 3/4 Kevlar vest real soon for one of my smaller dogs!

Update 9/21: Got my 3/4 in a few days ago and am looking forward to showing it some action this weekend and will post up on it.

I believe the Titan is currently being field tested and should be offering unmatched dog protection to the public real soon!

TEJAS - We have run Tejas for about 6yrs. No problems cutting through the vest, no rubbing the dogs. It is really nice gear. The only thing that we have added to our vests is the leg flaps. Firm believer in the leg flaps. Good vest and affordable! Good Luck!

If I was you and wanting a good cut vest I would buy a Tejas cut vest. I just got one from them the other day and let me tell you they will hold up to about anythin that you can think of. They are well worth the money that they ask for the cut vest.
