Just wanted to get some advice from some of the veterans on the best method to train young dogs to make strike dogs.  Should I use a live hog or a hide?  Hobble them or snare them? What is the best way to secure them at the end of the trail?  How far should I drag them?  Any advice would be much appreciated.

I all ways put my shoat in a pen in the woods . then use a hog hide drag drug towards the caged shoat . don't drag away from the pig or you'll teach them to back track . the length of the drag depends on the progress of the pups  .

Should I use a live hog or a hide?

Use both.  A hide works when they're real young...also easy to get out work them a little and put it up until next time.

When using a live hog, tie a 3 or 4 foot piece of 2"x4" to a back leg and turn it loose in the woods.  It will hang up somewhere.  That way you don't leave your own scent trail.
