Was kickin back when I got to thinkin & had a question for you all. May have been asked before and I know some of you guys have kamikaze rough bay dogs & some have the looser bayin dogs etc. but I was wonderin, do any of y'all have dogs that you run in woods and separate ones for pen? Dogs that do both? Just curious as to if some of y'all have dogs that'll do both. (When I say pen I mean bay pen competition or even like a jack pot event. NOT DO ANY OF YOU PUT YOUR DOGS IN A BAY PEN. I know that every human being that has been around this sport has put a dog in a bay pen once or a thousand times.) just a thought I had!

I ran all rough dogs with the exception of what I considered my strike dogs that would not touch a hog under any circumstance . but they would all ways wind up finding the pigs before the other dogs . they were suitable for and entered in a few bay comps . but most my dogs are too rough and will catch when the opportunity arises .

Maybe it's different now days but years ago if someone was SERIOUS about competition, there's no way in hades they'd hunt their best pen dog/s. It just didn't happen. There was to much money at stake.

Glad to see your awake there buddy, LMBO. I think the dogs your asking about are what we are trying to evolve towards. We don't want stupid or straight catch either one but rough enough that it's caught until it's convinced to stand and face up. I'm not one that likes a bunch of dogs on the ground at once so I want each dog hustling to do it all.

She's got her days for sure, she's only found I think 3 but 2 were piglets & one she wasn't far ahead of a finished dog. She's broke off cows but will bump deer. She's a decent dog just needs as much woods time as I can give her.
