Lutalayce is the most common but as said above, Lots of side effects. Anything from making a dog sterile to increasing chances of prolapse. I would steer clear.

pg600 is what Rusty Hall (vet in nome) gave my buddy to use on a gyp we wanted to breed but she came in heat before we ever got around to using it (very thankful as I have read about some very serious side effects) my buddy spoke with rusty and was told that it was pretty rare for any of the side effects to pop up but it was a possibility, just something to think about before you move forward with the shot.

Lutalyse works good, but as these other guys said it has its side effects. You can use it but she won't have as good of a heat than if she came in naturally. I use it on cattle all the time. A natural heat is always the best way to go. Good luck

I had my main gyp get bred by a potlicker and my vet gave her a lutalyse shot to make her abort the pregnancy which worked as she did not have pups... She had been bred once before this and had a healthy litter of puppies. I just bred her again (a year later and after the shot) and she miscarried and quit eating for a week. Thought she wasn't going to pull through it but she is getting back to normal now. Not sure if that shot messed her up or what...

several years ago I leased a male dog and only had a small window to breed a female before the male was to be returned. thru some friend of a friend deal I ended up getting connected to the president of Canadian houndsmen assc who kept over 200 foxhounds. he told me of a drug that was considered a controlled substance in Canada, had to be administered by a vet (2 vials, 2/3 of each vial per day, for 3 days), cost about $150 . . but was guaranteed to have your gyp in full, standing heat within a 24-48 hour range after 3rd shot . . and back out in about 52 hours max. he assured me he'd used it 6 or 7 times with no ill effects, and the gyp goes on to a regular estrus cycle every 6 months afterwards. my gyp came in naturally a few weeks later and I never pursued the drug route . . so I can't now remember what the name of the drug was . . and don't know how difficult it may or may not be to get it in the U.S. . . . but I'm positive it wasn't any of the things mentioned above. sorry this wasn't more helpful.

I've had ole timers say that if there is another bitch in heat and you hunt them or pen them together your dog will come in. I have seen this 1st hand, once, but honestly I was not keeping track so it may have just been my bitches time. But hey, might not hurt to try, wouldn't cost anything either.
