Well tonight I lost my very first dog to a hog.. Bert was a 10 month old BMC pup , tonight he struck his first and last hog 200 yards out and went to barking. My other dogs responded, I coud hear my four bay dogs workin thought it was sold bay... We headed in with CD .. Got within 150 yards to them , when we heard that horrible sound of a dog yelling out. The hog had broke , and took my pup out on the way, Bert never moved from where he struck the hog the other three dogs ran after the hog 400 yards though the brush, but could not keep up because of the terrain. My pup was vested with no cuts, but this hog had crushed him breaking his leg and shoulder. We have seen tracks of this hog (size of small calf) crossing our place and heard it run by on the road sounds like a horse galloping, he is a monster and now a dog killer. We choose not to chase after it again tonight, but will return another day.. I brought Bert home to bury. Sad night for me three years hunting with no loss , and to loose a pup that I bred, raised and trained, it's hit home really hard. these are the only pic I have of him and they was when he was young . He had grown and filled out so much since this pic. ;( This is an old pic when he was 7 months old Bert and his bother tank this last x mas 7 month

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog... A hunting dog is born not made...

There our two types of pain: The temporary pain of training or the permenant pain of failure. Choose wisely...
