There is a bill introduced in the La. legislature that outlaws transporting a live feral hog in louisiana. It is house bill 958.I think fewer hogs will be taken out of the woods if we have to kill them in the woods. We catch & tie and at the end of the hunt we kill & butcher. If I catch a hog early on a warm day, my hunt would be over if I had to go clean a hog to keep it from spoiling. All La.  hunters hunters need to talk  to their legislaters & defeat this bill before it gets out of committe. How in hell will they put on  Uncle Earls,I guess  with dead hogs. This is going to make for more bars, cause most people I know dont eat boar hogs so boars will become bars rather than kill  them.

Check out this bill.  This is a direct result of people asking for a change.  If we contact our representatives they will respond.

That is the same thing all the hog doggers said here in AR. Guess what? It passed. Now we are trying to have it repealed. It is much easier to stop it before it passes than after. Don't sit back and let them pass it. Do ur part and call ur reps and senators.

I thought that law was already in place?  Huh? Far as I knew, you had to have a permit to transport a live one.....

You only have to have a permit for live removal from the WMA's during the February dog season.

It has came up before, but we were able to defeat it each time. This bill is in the natural resources committe .I heard that they were going to meet on this March 21. Everybody needs to contact their legislaters now , don't put this off.We need to get it killed in committe.

These are the emails I plan to send.  Do y'all have any suggestions for any other points I should make?

Rep. Richard,

I am writing to urge you to vote against HB958.   This bill would prohibit the transfer of live feral hogs.  I believe this would be counter productive to helping reduce the number of wild hogs in Louisiana.

I hunt these hogs with highly trained dogs.  It is NECESSARY for me to bring hogs that I have caught back to my training facility.  Inexperienced dogs must be exposed to hogs in a controlled enviroment.  This would be next to impossible to do without bringing the hog to a training facility.

I will often put hogs into a trailer when hunting on hot days.  I will continue hunting and catching hogs until the hunt is over.  Then I transport the hogs to be killed and processed one at a time.  If this law passes I will have to kill the hogs before I can transport them to my kill/processing site. The hogs would sour before I could get them to an apropriate kill/processing site as I often travel a few hours to hunt.

If HB958 were to pass, I would be more inclined to practice catch and release on some places, and it wold no longer be reasonable to hunt some places that I currently hunt.

Thanks for your time,

Senator Chabert,

I am writing to you to strongly urge you to consider voting in favor of Senate Bill 324.  This bill would legalize night time hunting of feral hogs year round.

Feral hogs are an increasing problem in Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes.  I know of several cane farmers that are losing crops and continually damaging equipment because of the damage they do to the land.

Thanks for your time,

There are many points. How much revenue would the state lose if earls was no more. How many breeders would suffer major income loss due to not being able to train dogs prior to sell. The high fence hunting outfitters will lose revenue due to not being able to restock pigs. When u can't kill hogs for the majority of the year due to spoilage or are limited to 1 instead of 2 or 3 or more. The hog numbers will increase. Loseing the option to feed out hogs before taking as needed will make people hunt less or not at all. When they don't hunt they don't spend money. How much money do u spend yearly on hog hunting and hog hunting related items. Don't leave anything out. Money talks in the capital building. Also remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Don't just call once. Call until they agree. Then keep calling to ensure they don't change their mind.

Do they not have state funded buyers. In la like here in Tx? If so. I don't see how the transport could be made illegal.

They did that to us in South Carolina a couple years ago. Now you have to Pay for tags JUST ANOTHER TAX. i have the tags but you have to have a enclosure in your county to take them to and the tags are county pacific .  they blame the hunters that hunt with dogs for the problem around here.  the state is to stupid to know it is the outfitters that turned the hogs loose( when it was legal ) . You better watch it if they change the law because they have task forces that target hog hunters around here and they will burn your ass if they catch you with a live hog in the trailer with out tags( $1000.00 per hog ) .  personally they can kiss my ass old habits die hard i want to tie that big daddy didn't marry mommy and put him in the trailer. the game wardens already questioned a buddy of mine about hauling hogs with out tags.  He told him you know how people haul their dogs in the back of their truck well i haul hogs in my cow trailer they are my pets and they dont take kindly to strangers but you are welcome to put your hand in there and try to pet them.   i think its all crap when it gets hot the hog is no good by the time you get back home to skin it. the state should be fined for Want and Waste because over the last year we have a bunch of new hunters in my area coming in i guess they want to be an American Hogger and all i can say is the buzzards are eating good.    well i started out talking about outlawing transporting hogs to bitching sorry guys
