the dogs struck one about 4 hundreds yards out and they ran him about  1.5 miles or so and had him about shut down...I went about as far as I could go down this pipeline when I came to the fence along the Hiway...the dogs were to my right and they were putting so heat on the hog...I knew it wasn't a sow because she would have been caught...my Buddys show up and Robert's 2 running catch dogs slink off to the other dogs and I knew in a minute or 2 the poop was going to hit the fan...then Robert say's there are a bunch of goats and Shetland ponies over yonder where they are baying...I jump the fence and start trotting along the road towards the dogs...I heard when the 2 dogs got there so I was getting it...about as fast as an old fat man can move...  Grin

as I was moving along I saw a car coming down the road from behind me and it passes me up and then turns in about 2 hundred yards past me and I thought..."OH Chit"...that car turned in right where the dogs have one caught...I saw my other 2 buddies coming up from behind me as well...I was already envisioning shot dogs and lawsuits etc...etc...

first I thought dead goats...pulling ears off of Shetland ponies...but then I hear a pig squeal so I thought they done caught a barnyard registered white Hamshire hog and then I thought that between 3 of us we could diffuse the situation...  angel

about that time I heard a terrible scream come from a woman and I kicked it into overdrive as I look back towards my patna's...they heard that scream and all the hollering and they done turned and were running the other direction like scalded apes...  Huh? Smiley

as I come around I recognize the littlest post office in Texas and against the back wall was about a 225 pound boar hog and the woman was hollering that she just got scared and she said I don't what the heck is going on but that there is a terrible dog fight and all kinds of banging going on against the Post Office building...The big woods stop about 5 feet from the PO and about the time I get back there to take care of business the hog breaks loose and the dogs catch him again about 10 yards back in the thick briars...so I was trying to get to the dogs and the Post Office lady was screaming for me to do something...Ma'm I am doing my best but the briars are thick and I am having to cut my way in I said...I finally get there and take care of business...

She says I get queezy on the first kill  Huh? ...I was just trying to open up for business and man did I get scared...and then she say's...you know that you are on posted land and I know the Game Warden...Yes ma'm I replied...we have permission to take out all the wild hogs we can from this place...they want them out...and then she says Ok...I get out as fast as I could with all the dogs...all dogs were ok...

In the mean time my buddies done went back and told Robert them dogs had a horse caught...If I had known that I would have had a real good story for them...  Evil

we were cutting up and making jokes about it the rest of the hunt...fun was had by all...  Cool  Smiley

Thats one of the best I've heard....you did a real good job at describing your side! Funny stuff, I'm just wondering during your thought process-how nervous were you in that situation? I know I would have been really tense with all the farm animals....lol

thanks for reading fellas...

turning those long range dogs loose always makes my stomach turn to knots...the 4 dogs I have right now I like very well but I don't get to hunt very much because of my long hours at work...so just not hunting my dogs very much makes me a little more nervous on account they just might catch a goat or a Shetland pony  Cheesy...barn yard hogs are another scenario that I dread because that can really happen...

even though I worry a little when I turn the dogs loose I can't keep a quitter...I will add a little APBT of the right type to the dogs to shorten up the race but hopefully not lose any of the bottom...still want the bottom when needed but not the long drawn out chase...stop hog at first opportunity is the goal...having access to running vests without have to order makes it convenient and the prices are not that high...

hopefully the shorter races will equal to less opportunity for the dogs to go off into other ranches, deer leases, neighborhoods etc...etc...

Hey Reuben, I bayed a big sow in the parking lot at the Bristow Ok. sale barn one day, luckily it was early and the horse sale they used to have hadn't started yet. There were 2 old men in the parking lot watching, gyp was bayed for an hour before I could get there. Them old men told me they enjoyed watching it. Of course that was before cell phones and Garmin and I didnt know exactly what was going on. Makes you nervous when you know them dogs have crossed the highway and you have to go way around to find them.
