Met up with DewaltHogger over at his place for an afternoon hunt and loaded up his labs and curs. we figure we'd take this one female dog who finally weaned her pups so she can run and draw up. we get to the spot and drop the dogs off and withing a few minutes about 100 yds we bay up and have a caught hog about a 150lb sow. as we're tieing this one that female dog disapears and within 5 minutes their all bayed up on the river  on a good solid sow. we make our way there and they're across the damn river.never realized what torture was till we sat there and watch the dogs bay up for 2hrs across the river. the current was too bad to swim it so our only hope was that it would swim our way. and she did but everytime she got half way she would turn around and the dogs would swim to the bank and bay her back in the water. after a good while we decided to ease back in the woods when i noticed the sow swimming back to the bank we were on. as soon as i heard that first bark i cut the cd loose and sure enough we end up catching her on the bank. she was pushing every bit of 200+ other than it being torture it was nice to see the dogs work the sh!t out of her on the bank. they got slung around but stayed on her the whole time. had a hella of a time on that hunt along with the dogs, they all worked their a$$ off.

That was a long wait but glad they stuck with her..it was worth the wait..glad to see the cur pup helping out when she came back to our side, he's getting better as he grows but still won't get in that river just like his daddy. .

Good deal!  I think the best part about it is the labs.  Are the labs good solid hog dogs and how do they compare to the cur dogs?  I hate to get off subject- but using labs is VERY interesting to me.  I think labs are maybe the best all around dog and I've said it before, I believe a good lab can do anything a cur dog can do.

The labs I run can keep up with the curs & hold their own. .I've caught a lot of hogs behind those 2 boys..just like any lab though, they will find some water & cool down when the get the opportunity to. .These 2 have been hunting hogs since they were pups, around 5 or 6 months old so they're in good condition & use to the long runs and hunting for 8 to 12 hrs..I have seen other labs try it & fall out after a few hrs, an hour the most in the summer..they love trashing hogs though & do every chance they get..

Sounds good.  I sure wouldn't mind crossing my gyp on a real nice lab.

That is pretty dang cool. I'm a lab man myself and have always wondered about one on a hog.
My fiance would kill me if I took her baby boy out. I could see how it would help in the area you hunt,
as they can swim like fishes. Good hog and good hunt, congrats guys.

My black lab bred my tree walker hound & she had 7 pups..it wasn't a planned breeding but I'm not mad about it cause they both hunt good & I've caught some good hogs behind both of them. .should make some good dogs, we'll have to wait & see how they turn out. .
