Most I ever paid for a CD was $500. That was without seeing him catch...BUT...an albumn full of pics of the dog on hogs. I also must add.....I trusted the man. He was well known and had a good reputation.
"Bucky" was one of the best CD's I ever owned.

It all comes down to knowing then dog and how much it's worth to you but I would think other than your best strike dog you main cd should be just as important

Well I paid 1450 for a bulldog as a pup , but she was the same bloodline as my male , reg Pitts which dosent mean much to most but does to me in my program , I wouldn't sell any of my proven CDs for under a grand , and not going to sell any of the pups for under 500 , no doubt they will catch. , guaranteed , the key is socialization , pretty much the same story that has been pounded here , dummy's or no dummy's , handlers or idiots , dog men or getto men lol ,

Same as with strike dogs...what someone is willing to pay. The thing that gets me is the disparity between the two...particularly with started dogs and pups. (I understand the disparity when speaking of finished dogs)
A good catchdog is not as easy to find as most believe...

To me a good catch dog is worth more than a good strike dog. If a strike dog doesn't do it's job we go home without pork. If a catch dog doesn't do it's job you may not go home! Go catch some good hogs by yourself and the true value of a good catch dog is priceless.

Well put, it's when you get in a bind that you realize exactly what you have, or don't have and I'd sure hate to see that side of it.

I like knowing the hog is controlled when they get there. My best dog will help catch. Her getting cut has been drastically reduced after I got my big male bulldog. He is 90-95 pounds of hog hate. I have never bred a dog but last week he was bred to a nice female catchdog if that says anything. [/quote] its not bad to breed two proven dogs and if he's that big and if the dam is close give me a shout I may take one I want to raise one more X 2 Sounds good, it's hard to find good ones.

I have never sold a proven cd , I gave away a lot to buddies who needed them, but a good CD is always priceless if your hunting pigs... If my good buddy ask me for my #1 catch dog he could take him in a heart beat and wouldn't have to give him back. I said good buddies... Done it before and would do it again except my Dogo (Diego) raised him from a pup...

You wanna know what a good CD is worth? I say they are worth this it's something called memories. It's the same thing that any man's dogs should be worth to him. I think if you're looking for anything more, you might wanna get into to something else. But that's jmo, for what it is, or isn't worth. Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Tapatalk

I've Been Iin a Bind for a catchdog for about a year and half now and would pay $500-$1000 for a catchdog that when u turn him loose u know he's gonna be hanging on the hogs ear. Had one and he got killed and that's when u really realize the importance of his role and how hard a great one is to come by. Still searching by the way.

I think the price depends on the depth of ur pocket. Same as any dog. I would figure dollar for dollar at 2 to 1 bay vs cd

heres mine. Cobaine has been with me for almost four years now an was two when my cousin give him to me. He was just a couch potato till the day I got him. Told my cousin he was either gunna make a hand or I would give him to my sister as a house dogs. I put a bay vest on em an threw him in the pen with a big boar(215#) that I had in the baypen. He looked clueless for about five seconds until instinct kicked in. Got tossed in the air a few time then caught ear and skull. Ever since then he's been a blessing. Been caught 30 mins and more several times from different circumstances in the woods. Best part is being able to speak to him like a human. Won't start a fight but he won't be made a punk either. Along with all my older males and a few females. I train mine to be hunting dogs not lap dogs, as well as family dogs. Any of my family and kids could ride any of them but when it's time to hunt playing is not on the agenda. I take precautions with him (kennel and log chain) because he has got ahold of a stray that came within reach on his chain while my female was in heat. In my opinion he did my job for me but saved me a bullet. All pits should be respected of their breed and what they were bred for. We've had dozens of pits in the past and ever dog is different. I have seen that when most males get older (6+) they have a small tolerance for BS just like an old man. I'm the same way but I no when to walk away and cool off, hard to teach an old male dog that. Getting ready to castrate my male soon with no doubt in my head he will still be the best CD I've ever hunted behind. I've turned down 1000$ for him twice and would turn down way more. If he was ever to leave my yard it would be to a very close buddy that I know would take care of him the same as me and I wouldn't sale him. If your in it for the money, you've completely missed the whole meaning of the sport.

Thanks mdj. He's fat in this pic from not being hunted much during deer season He leans down a lot when we start hunting 3+ days a week. If we get on a runner he gets cut loose after they run him for a bit and most of the time he has no problem catching up with the hog, he's got some good runnings gears under him to help. Only dog I own that I can tell to cross water wherever I want him to. Just tell him"go see" and he goes. The day he passes is gunna be a very hard pill to swallow
