I usually dont care but everyone I meet that finds out i hunt with dogs starts telling about someone they know or saw on you tube or tv down south who has pitbulls and uses a knife and every time i try to tell them i hunt the same way for the most part. they cut me off mid thought and i cant get a word in edge wise. I guess they assume i hunt tame pigs. also send me links to videos of hunts and bay pens that they have scoured the web for. leaves me thinking " i have twenty videos on my phone that are better" I just don't post pics or videos on the www because i dont want locals knowing when i'm on the hogs because they are only in small pockets and everyone will be staked out on those spots.one video i have been hounded with is a video of a patterdale getting slung all over in a bay pen. i bet peta has that one in there files too.I know its shallow but I have been sitting here to hacked off to sleep about that and fickle hunting partners who you hunt there dogs for them and take them to your spots and then your stuck with them and their dog fighting mutts. I wish i still just hunted solo and minded my own business and never told or took anyone with me.I sure miss my first pack. just me and them and the woods and we even got on a hog once in a great while. I sold a few to make room for better dogs others have gone back to the earth. it's become a real hassle any more. I know a couple people im going take when i get a big nasty boar hog located or a large sounder of big hogs and let them see if it's anything like the way their cousins daughters nephew does it.I just felt like venting so I can sleep, had two non hog doggers within twenty minutes tell me how it was done tonight. (this one fellow gets me regular and if you try to speak he starts talking faster to prevent a break in on his monologue) however they had no interest in anything i had to say so i set and listened, then came home and whined on here. thanks for listening.

Brother, its pretty simple if you ask me. I have dealt with the exact same thing for quite a while myself, I live in a small rural farming community, at any given time you can look at the gas station parking lot and see currs or hounds in the bed of someones truck, everyone is a hogdogger now days and everyone knows the "best" way to do it and everyone owns the best dogs around and ain't afraid to tell you about em, I look at it like this.......life is WAY TO SHORT to hunt with people that you don't enjoy being around, hunt with your buddies or by yourself and don't let the internet guru's get to you. We (myself and my other 1/2) were at a point where we just flat out weren't having fun hunting anymore due to others and had to make a change, we simply started hunting by ourselves and with new people and we were back to enjoyin ourselves again just like that. Find you a hunting buddy that you KNOW won't burn you and that hunts the same way you hunt and get back in the woods, may take some time to find the right fit but when you do I promise it will make things much more enjoyable  Wink.

As far as the non hunting, hog hunting guru's go just sit back and listen and laugh about it later, no need to let em get you wound up, like I said above LIFE IS TO SHORT to deal with that nonsense.

Just keep on keepin on.  We hunt with a small group of guys.  3 of us have dogs, 3 that hunt with us don't.  We all hunt good together, and even better all of our dogs hunt great together.  We keep our group small, and we have fun, and enjoy the time we spend out chasin hogs.  Every once in awhile we have some one come along with us, but rarely it happens.

Maddest I've gotten in a long time was this winter.  I had some things to do with the kids first thing in the morning, so I was late getting to the woods.  My buddy had already jumped a big boar, sent catch dogs 2 different times but the boar kept breaking before they got there.  When I got there, the dogs had been on this boar for 3 hours, he hollered at me on the cb and told me where they were getting ready to cross, and to put my fresh dogs on him.  I got there, and there were 5 trucks behind me, all coyote hunters that herd us talking on the cb.  I got my fresh dogs on him, and the race was on.  My main hound and my main Catahoula ended up at 900 yards and bayed pretty quick.  I was traveling so I was going to go just a little closer when they broke bay.  So I sat and waited.  All the trucks (coyote hunters) were following me around, because they wanted to "see the pit bull fight a hog", I explained to them, there was not going to be any fight, and all the trucks runnin around were making the boar break bay.  They didn't listen, and the next stop they were bayed again at 850.  I could hear em bayed, so I started out on foot when here comes the train of trucks again.  This time I heard a dog yelp, and could see on the garmin that they had broke bay again.  My Catahoula came back cut up.  This was  rank boar that kept chasin the dogs everytime the bay would break, and I couldn't get close enough to get catch dogs on him with all the people following me around.  So it came down to only my hound on the boar.  He is my main dog in my little hog hunting operation, and without him I would have a hard time killin hogs.  He ran the boar across the road right in front of the other guys, and they just let the boar go, had plenty opportunity to shoot it, but still wanted to see a dog fight.  Finally I told em if they want to see a dog fight, put their coyote hounds on it, because I am going to catch my hound and leave.  Of course they had to tell me what I needed to do in order to get my catch dogs to the bay, which they were breaking up because they could hear my hound everytime he would bay.  Finally my hound bayed him in a big pond, and I got down there with the catch dogs, but the boar had already swam the pond and my hound was in the middle swimming to me.  I got him caught, and headed home.

Everywhere I stop in public out here (we live in a rural area) some stranger feels compelled to start asking me a million questions because they see my dogs/dog box. Then like ya said, they get goin on their cousin's uncles' sister's boyfriend or whoever that does this or that....pretty much like you pegged it. I'm pretty used to it now. You'd think it'd be more of a natural thing out here to where you wouldn't get stopped so often. I don't mind at all talking with folks who are genuinely interested, and who actually listen to your responses when you answer, but I don't care to hear all the other nonsense. Waste of my time and patience. It's not a fad, it's a passion, and for some, a way of life.

I think it's starts as looking for common ground to start a conversation. I think it ends up them reciting every thing they have been told to sound more knowledgeable about it. Once they get going they are scared if they stop they will loose their train of thought.

LOL And show their ignorance /misinformation  about what really happens.

You would think with the popularity of it, the folks with the nerve to stop you to talk would be more experienced or at least better informed.

U have to remember where they get their info. The loud mouth bragging on how tough his dogs are or the In law trying to be special.

Don't entertain them by listening, first time they take a breath, Time to get somewhere (holler at you later).  I very rarely am in town with a dog or anything that gives any idea I hunt.  I built my dog box only 2 inches taller than the truck bed, painted same color as my truck, you can't even tell its a dog box.   It's no secrete that I hunt, I just don't advertise it, it avoids a bunch of those conversations.   Better half tells me I'm anti social all the time.  She is wrong I'm not anti social, I just have a short tolerance for stupid $hit.  I did get hijacked at a family function Easter Sunday, and had to listen to how the yellow dogs had birddog in them. And who all had the best dogs, in the country.     $hit happens!!!!!

I have been in more than one discussion on FB trying to get folks to remove crap like that along with the cut dog pics.

sorry i haven't been replying I've been doing a nasty job. I hate roofing. I'm going to start telling people I haven't been in a long time disinterested like and that might get rid of them. I also see lots of cut pictures on fb. It seems thats the object of the game to some. especially when the dogs dead or should be but would have been fine with a vest on. i understand some have their reasons not to run them but most all my dogs have fifty or more cuts on their vest and  only a few on their hide.I just cant imagine throwing it upon www like you like getting your dogs all maimed. I thought I was ticked about non doggers but I've noticed my bad attitude has spread to a general dissatisfaction with my whole lifestyle. I think I just need to make some life changes and cut off some dead weight. I'm going to volunteer as a hospital and hospice chaplin and instead of trying to make money off the resent tornadoes around me i'm going to volunteer just to help them. I'm a christian but I still have that root of bitterness in me that needs pulled. There is so many hurting people in this world and i'm sitting around upset about stuff that never mattered at all.
