Only reason the dog comes to the horn is recognition of a trained sound.
You can train em to just about anything....car horn....hollering...whistle ......Lorrie Morgan cassette ...ect...ect...
I use horns on all mine cause I hate losing my voice and it carries further.
Just utilize the preferred sound around your kennel for a few weeks ...and you will be in bizzzness.

Thanks for the advice
Reason for the question was I wasn't sure if the advice given would work on an older dog that was used every single day. The dog in question is one of the old school type of dog that was used everyday weather it was on cows or hogs.

Blow your horn around them while feeding and then while they are eating 3 or 4 different times. Mine have always caught on real quick. While they are still chained up blow it from around the corner you should get some response if they are getting use to it.

goose , when we were kids and had to be home at a certain time for school we'd catch a young dog and hype him up by shaking limbs and talking to him to get him treeing and then shoot a 22 to bring the old dogs in.... this was a last resort cause our daddys didn't want to stay out all night waiting on us to get to the meeting place lol .
i've seen my granddaddy blow thru 1 barrel just like a horn lots of times to call his dogs in . he'd say - lets head twards the truck they'll be here directly hahaha .
