Although this story is such a good one.  It also reminds me how sickening and embarrassing the fall...... from a president t be admired to what we have today.  And even more tragic .....he won a second term.
so true.

Another example of American  Spirit.  Great story from a time too long gone. Can u imagine a sitting U.S.  President  these days attending any event where a large mammal was killed.  Like previous poster stated, those days are long gone. Our current prez would soil his lil panty if he was any where near a game animal. Hate to say it but we are lost and losing ground fast.

Roosevelt did have a thing for extreme people. This was the first I hear of this fella, and it was a great read. Ol' teddy traveled around a bit with a fella named Ben Lilly. It was written that Teddy seeked him out for a Bear guide and they killed the bear up north Louisiana.

Love stories like this. Thanks for the post

Never heard of Jack Abernathy before this post but ordered the book. Thanks for the suggestion! I have a pretty good library of hunting and dog books and always looking for more rare and out of print stuff that has been forgotten by modern book publishers.

Also bought this book recently and just received it in the mail. It's a true account of real experiences . . written by author Zane Grey who was more famous for his fictional works.
