Something we all should have in our working dog's First Aid kits!

Got word of this product from a fellow Vet Tech that also works dogs up north. She didn't know about it until a conference she is attending this weekend. Looks like some potentially life saving stuff. There's a line of this stuff that humans use in the military, etc. I intend on ordering some as soon as I am able.
It's called CELOX. I'm sure it may have been around for a while, but this is the first I heard of it, and I want to get my hands on some.

Fast, effective first aid for animals

When mixed with blood, CELOX forms a gel-like clot in just 30 seconds and stops arterial and venous hemorrhaging in less than 3 minutes, independent of the body's normal clotting processes.1

CELOX achieves the principle intended action of homeostasis by the highly absorbent chitosan granules forming a robust gel plug covering and blocking the bleeding source.

CELOX products have been used on the battle field on

I have some in my kit. It's not exactly cheap but it's effective. I have been toting it for 2 years now. I have only used it 3x twice on dogs once on a human. Human said there was no burn. When I used it on my Kane dog the vet told me it rinsed out no problem. One dog once we got the blood stopped with celox we treated with iodine solution and sewed up. It's good stuff and I like it.

I use the regular celox. If they have a vet version now maybe it's cheaper.

Its called kwik-clot and can be ordered through places like us cavalry. There even bandages with the clotting agent. Between kwik-clot and a tampon, it will seal up nearly any wound. The military version is a lil pricey and has an experation, n i would think the vet type would too. Once it resches its experation, its clotting ability is reduced. Flour and a tampon or gause bandage would be a cheaper substitute.

The name of this stuff Charles is celox . That is the name on the package. Kwik - clot is a different product.

That ain't no kidding. I had to hav it put on me 1 time and it burned like I was on fire.
It's been a while since I had delt with it in the military, but as of 2012, they were still using kwik-clot. I wasn't able to get my hands on any of the medic bags a coupe months ago when I was back in Afghanistan so I can't say if they changed over or not. I'm sure if they did, the soldiers r glad it don't burn.

All our Academy stores carry Kwik Clot. The others are just a copy of that. Been using it for years now and won't leave home without it. It's the only way to truly stop fatal bleeding. For those that don't know this is not blood stop powder and cannot even be compared. This stuff really works and can be carried in a shirt pocket.

Kwik clot comes in a bean bag pouch and you just shove it in the hole and wrap it up. I know of three of my friends dogs that are alive from direct jugular vein hits in front of the cut collar because we all had A Kwik Clot pouch in our pockets during the hunts.

They are the same thing. Kwik Clot is the original brand name. $10.00 at Academy or $19.00 for a first aid kit plus Kwik Clot. You can find it in the camping section.

I'm sorry but celox is not the same stuff as Kwik clot. It may serve the same purpose but it is not the same. Kwick clot has an endothermic reaction. Celox does not. I'm can't say if one is better than other but I can say they are not the same.

I bought the 10x2oz packs for $20 when I bought mine but that was a year ago. I plan to get the 6oz injector for bad puncture wounds. It will be easier than pouring powder in then poking it deeper with finger.

From what I have now read I see kwick clot is no longer available in granular only in a gauze form. They also claim it doesn't heat up as bad as it did.
