The other day I was hunting and my clay dog bayed one on the river bank as I was going to drive around there and send some pups he broke and swam the river and bayed on the other side. It was the alabama river so swimming over there is out of the question but long story short I drove around and caught the hog but my dog that originally bayed had swam back across and piled up on the bank cut down in both front shoulders he was layer open muscles split and tendons or ligaments cut but it wasn't looking good but I got him to the vet my buddy stayed on the original side incase the hog swam back while i drove around. But what can be done when tendons get cut. We have several vets around here but the one I use for my best dogs is real expensive I'm sure my bill will be around 1500$. I was just curious what could be done with the tendons incase I ever have a dog that won't get a 1500$ bill happen to and I can maybe work on them myself

That's rough. I wouldn't leave the cut open, more likely to heal if you sutured him. Keeping it clean with warm water will help him heal quicker. Might try applying topical antibiotics, and lightly covering it too. But if this is one of your better dogs I'd take him in, to make sure he heals up right. Good luck.

That's good. Infection is what did it for one of our pups a few years back. In most circumstances, if its meds, cleaning and time my dogs need I'll doctor them myself. But if its putting your dog back together, we had to the vet. Best of luck with him recovering.

If it is deep muscle I will suture it back together. It will heal together faster. Tendons being cut or torn is vet work.

Agreed Cut/torn (completely severed) ligaments and tendons most time need surgery to repair properly. Depending if it was cut where the vet can sew it back together, the vet may need to use a cadaver or graf from a healthy tendon ligament. Whe I tore me knee out, the doc did a graf from my hamstring to repair the ligaments

i took this one to the vet cause hes one of the best i have, hes been there since sunday just talked to vet a minute ago said hes still not ready to come home hes not wanting to eat and drink they had him on iv fluids yesterday and i guess today as well. maybe he will pull through and get to come home one day next week with no infection, i think if he would of stayed on the side of the river i drove around to he would of been fine as far as infection goes but he swam back across and it took alot out of him also. i usually just work on young dogs myself because the vets are so expensive here but its hard to risk that on a good dog that cant be replaced. i kept putting off breeding him and was breeding another male i have that hunts out a little further but i have decided if he makes it im not going to hunt him anymore til i get him bred, and he will probably be laid up the rest of the summer anyhow so ill have plenty time for my female to come back in heat. the last vet bill i had at this office was 1400 my other male dog got his guts and ab muscles cut out, i think this was a little more severe than the last time i dread to get that bill lol
