Man I gotta tell ya I don't understand the "what are people buyin these days" either.  I gave, GAVE, GAVE away two good dogs.  One was a hair short of a running catch dog and the other was a help dog more or less.  I told the boy what they would do and that they were a little coyote actin with new people and to give them tim to get to know him.  he calls me a week later and says they wont hunt for him, aren't gritty etc.

Some people want 800 dogs for free, and others pay 800 for one that should cost .22

Agreed ^

Sold a young gyp (around 13-14 months) for...I think $350 if my memory is correct....very we'll started. Had been going to the woods since she was 6 months old. Been on a LOT of pigs...even struck a couple squatters. Anyhow...guy brings her back after 2 hunts...said all she wanted to do was run with his older gyp licking her muzzle. Said he put his gyp up and she did the same with his male. I tried to explain pack dynamics but he still wanted to bring her back so I gave his money back.

That same pup is the oldest dog in a young mans pack and he loves her. When your buying a pup/dog...it helps if you know a little something about hunting dogs....or will at least listen to someone who does.

Sad part is.....as long as there's folks out there putting themselves in the position to be taken advantage of....these swindlers will keep on pulling the crap they're pulling.  :/

What gets me is you boys want a jam up dog.before I offer a red cent I've hunted with the dog a few times. A 2000 dollar dog is a very good young on his way to the top of the pack finished strick dog. Sure ain't no running catch dog .

Mrs Krystale I couldn't agree more.  I couldn't even give away two decent dogs without the guy complaining.  I think too many people have unrealistic expectations.

Yessir.
I think some people forget that dogs are imperfect living/breathing/bleeding creatures sometimes, and not pre programmable machines.

I like dealing with friends myself.  I have a deal with a friend right now.  I have a red lep Catahoula that doesn't hunt like I want one to hunt.  He is short range, will go out to about 250 yards, circle back and check on me then head out again and repeat the whole time you hunt.  I like dogs I can cast on sign and they go find their own hog, hence why I run hounds and hound crosses.  A friend of mine hunts off a mule, and he likes his dogs to hunt fairly tight.

I told him to take him out a few times, and if he likes him, I told him the price I would take for him.  If the dog doesn't work out for him, that's fine, I'll keep hunting him.  He's a smaller framed dog, doesn't eat much, easy to take care of, so I definitely don't mind him around.  He sure is ruff on a hog too.

When it comes to a high dollar dog (anything over 500 bucks to me is a high dollar dog, and I've sold a few and bought a few 3 times that high, back in my coon hunting and squirrel huntin days), I want to see the dog in action first.  If I'm sellin a dog, I take the buyer out with me to show him how they work.  Some dogs take awhile to adjust to new homes, new faces, but If I take the person out, nothing is different.  Same as buying a dog, I want the owner to take me and the dog out and see how he is.

I'm just old enough to remember the days of, when a guy told me the dog would hunt, it would.  Too many peddlers have tarnished a good man's word now days. And it's sad to say, I don't 100% trust anyones word but my friends now days.

Yall know what I think..... I think there is a lots of people out there that want to be hog doggers that have no ideal what it takes to make a dog !    They want a dog now and not have to do the work involved to make a dog plus like I said they have not got a clue of what it takes are how to do it  .  It takes tons and tons of time and pig tracks to make a real hog dog .

I have had enough trouble with free dogs I ain't paying for nothing I don't see in action first. My best dogs were free and my worst. But at least when I gave pups away nobody called and complained  Undecided Some people ain't heard you don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
