If you're already wanting to talk about the more silent the better, then why even mess with hounds?

I just don't understand why someone wants to get on here and say you don't need to look for hounds.. All I said was the quieter the better.. I want something that will say quiet on cold track I know what a hound is and what they do and there are lines out there that are quieter than others so there is no reason I don't need to look for hounds.. Seems like every post somebody gets on the post and puts something unrelated to the question. If someone wants something out of normal traits of a breed doesn't mean it isn't out there.. It means get help and find it and that's all I'm asking for.. Sorry for offending anyone .. I'm done arguing!! Thanks in advance for any help!!

if you want registered full blooded then I can't help you...but quite a few parkers have the look somewhat like that of a plott and most are silent but excellent hog dogs...you might consider a cross of the 2 breeds if you can find a pup bred that way...

Parker's would be a good deal for range and silent but if you road hunt I would not go with one

that might work for you boy , but just some info from an old man . I run nothing but cur hound crosses and my cross dogs hunt just like my curs medium distance [ or close to some's standards ] and check up . it's not the breed that makes a dog range , it's the method they are worked and ALLOWED to range . my full blood plotts are and were medium range dogs that checked up if in no hogs . now the cross dogs could and can handle a long distance race a whole lot better than the full curs . I have had a few full blooded Catahoula's that would flat get out and get gone . do to my hunting preferences they were moved on to people that hunted from mechanical machines .

I know several plott guys on this site, I am one of them. They are all good guys and none of them are going to come out and tell you that they have jam up plotts. Even though they migth- they are modest and humble men. Most of them also raise pups for themselves and thier firends and they dont usually offer them to the public.
If I were you, I would spend some time in the search button and see who is posting about what. Get to know one of them by using PM or something. Go hunt with htme several times and see what they have. You may find that thier dogs are not your style. No sense in just taking someones work and spending a lot of time raising a pup just to find out you have a babbler that barks every other step.
If you are really interested in finding a dog to cross, dont buy a pup; you wont know how they are until they age. Go hunt with one of these men in the woods and bring a pocket full of cash. You see a dog that impresses you- make the man an offer. I honestly dont think you will get one of these older dogs for less than $2,500.
Just my opinion.

You shouldn't have to look to far texasoy, Cajun has plotts that have been bred for hogs and he catchs tons every year with them. You'll probably have to stand in line though, he's not a puppy mill and his extras are in high demand for their reputation. Get in touch with him and tell him what you want in a plott and he'll tell you if his line will suit you.
Good luck
