I've never owned a real big bulldog but much bigger then the one I use now would be rough leading in and out the woods for me.  He ain't much except real camera shy.

I like a little bigger dog tug is about 80-90 lbs

I like mine big and slow. Not un-athletic just slower going to a bay. Doesn't bother me one bit if they trot to a bay. I like it better because I run real loose dogs and usually only one or two on the ground that will run a 10ft circle around one and bark. I'm a firm believer that if your catch dogs go in slow and pick their rout rather than crashing through the brush and slam one then your less likely to bust a bay wen the catch dogs get sent. I like it wen they slip in there, pick a rout, and nab an ear. Wen my bulldogs catch they are on their own till I get there cus my cur dogs don't help catch and I don't want them to. Don't want them to be lazy, just accurate

I like the way you hunt. ..dogs that sit back and bay till you get there with catch dog...there has been several times where there are two and THREE bays at once...one catch dog that is solid can get it done. Last few times ive hunted like that NO dogs got hurt, we got more hogs than hours we hunted....good times!!

That "old" gyp that Jody posted is one of those ease in to the bay without crashin brush catchdogs that is sure as you can get and don't get cut much. Her son in the pic above is 13 mo. and will get tried this winter when I come down. He is standin at 75#. Sure hope he carries on like his parents.

The red bulldog is REd, a 70# pit who was my best. If a hog broke he normally ran it down within 200 yards & it was caught.
 The dk. brindle pit with the vest was Billy, a 65# pit who looked like the devil himself, but literally would lick a stranger to death. This was around 1980 & some of the first vests we were making. It was made out of a heavy canvas, but it was bulky.
  Hammer a 85# pit who I got from Orval Roberts. This is how he always met me at feeding time. Whoever said pits do not have personality has just never been around them.

Cajun b4 I even read ur post the first thing I noticed was the brindle bulldog holding food bowl in his mouth. Although I am a sucker for brindle dogs I have a big brown and white pit that does exactly the same thing with the food bowl! Its a trip. Lol

I have seen good bulldog catch dogs that weigh as much as 85 pounds. After that, they loose their heat tolerance, stamina, and ambition. Although I am certain there are exceptions out there. If a dog can't jump onto the back of a pickup truck, consider that 2.5 strkes against him in my book.

 I have a male that is 100 lbs in hunting shape. Been a great dog thus far. He doesnt run into a bay full speed, kind of a trot. He is smart and has a good handle.

Those are a friend of mines. Some of the best hog dogs I have seen are his. Really nice dogs. All where imports , not the junk you see people selling. A few would wind but most were cast out. Big loops. Some where miles long.
