Berton Oney used to raise them & he had some good ones. Try to pick up a Full cry or American cooner magazine & that should give you a guideline on where to go. I have been out of coonhunting to long & dont really remember any of the competion English bloodlines.

I'm no expert by any means there are a lot of houndsman on here that might know but they are separate breeds. They say all hounds come from the English dogs except for plotts. The English dogs I hunted behind were powerful treeing dogs and blueticks seem to be more trailing dogs from what I've seen. This in no way saying they aren't good tree dogs but they trail very well.Mr Whitten might be able to give you more insight he's an old houndsman.I do know in the 40s ukc recognized the blueticks as their own breed.

From what I saw on several hound breed sites, the English coonhound or English hound seems to call them the red tick, but I thought they were blue ticks too till I looked them up last yr. there is an English blue tick, but a search of just English hounds pulls up the red tick. As redneck rob said, get up with mr written and or wait for some of the hounds men to respond and give you their input. Hopefully they will respond bc I'm curious myself as to the difference in the English hound lines

About 1910 or 1905 the English was registered and it included Redticks, Blueticks and Walkers. The Walkers were the first to split off, then the Blueticks. The English dogs also prduce some Blueticks. Some of the early great producers were ticked up Walkers that were single regestered as English. As far as bloodlines today, I don't have a clue. Leroy Penny was mentioned and I know he has bred Redticks for 50 or 60 years.

yep actually the only major difference in the hound breeds [ these days ] is color . they have just about all gone to hotter nosed dogs bred for the competition hunts . mainly just depends on what color of dog you want to look at when feeding them . as far as the most [popular ] bloodlines you here the most about swamp rooster and main street jack .

In the 90's we hunted a few redtick English. They were good dogs, tracked well, not ill in any way unless you were a coon. Handled well, I guess it depends on the strain, we had them and walkers. I'd go English if it was me, reason being, I think there's way more guys breeding the walkers geared towards competition hunting. That being said, I've been around some real nice walkers too.

Grnitech Red Rockin Rowdy x Nitech Sassy pups
Sassy had 13 pups two nights ago out of rowdy! They are all super sharp and look healthy and strong! Anybody that doesn't know rowdy is a littermate to Grnitech Rocky hill Rocker which is the sire of one of the winningest English females ever PCH Rocky Hill Cold hard B!! Rowdy is a coondogs himself and has one litter on the ground that are treeing their own coon and doing outstanding! Sassy is a nitech with a win toward grand! These pups ought to make stem winders! If interested in one you can call or text me at 479-453-6603! If you call and I don't answer I'll call you back cause I'm very busy at work! Thanks

PM me your #, a good buddy of mine has some english pups that should be born in about a month or so. Their grandpa on dads side won world hunt in 2011. He's all about helping a youngster out. They should make some good coon dogs, both parents can get it done alone or in company and are straight.

Here's a fine redtick. Loved this joker and he was hell on hogs. Some scum bag stole him from me while I was out of town working. Best coondog I ever seen hunt wa a redtick as well. Name was shotgun my dad owned him in the 90s before he was killed by a truck running a coon across highway 94 in Hudson tx. As many hunts as we went on I can't remember one time we took shotgun and didn't tree atleast one ringtail. Awesome dog. He was built a lot like this male.

Thanks Nick! I dont get on here much anymore but I just happened to stumble across this! The pups rueben posted off of UKC should be good ones. I have a female out of the Rowdy dog first litter. Most of my dogs go back to Rocky Hill Redman which is Woodstock Grizzly bred.
