At the end of the day if your dogs work for you  then that's all that really matters

Lt it's simple open country heck no. But on the river and on chambers the dogs can't go as fast the hog can't ether. It will cut the speed way down bout 4 on average by time you walk a mile back to your buggy truck or what ever to could be that much closer to your dog I hunt like this 2 to 3 times a week yr around some times is 200 yards caught hog some times it's miles I have ran all kinds of dogs down in those bottoms it don't change much I have invited you many times to go but you never have you should so you can see for your self

I d be honestly I couldn't walk behind my dogs or the guys I hunt with because we d loose them wen they got on a hog

X2 but I don't think others have experienced hunting behind this type of dog. Not saying people don't have good dogs but there's just some dogs that have no quit what so ever. And you're honestly just not gonna keep up on foot. I really don't care who you are. 4 legs travel faster then 2.

lol that's what people say to me about my lead dog, How in the heck can you keep up with him on foot.. I say walk fast and don't stop and start jogging after a mile on the Garmin unit..lol But yes it's really hard and hunting off a 4 wheeler is like a vacation for me..  Ya i have to agree if the dog is good and has allot of good aged wood time on him There's no quit because to dog knows the hog will lay in down sooner or later.. Bottom like a hound ..

Heck fellas, the older I get and more experience I gain, the more I realize that I don't know squat!  Cheesy

Ill give you a great "for example" I've got a group of dogs I like quite a bit, I focus real hard on this one property that will usually only have one boar on the whole 1500 acres, and often no sows or pigs with him. I've only been able to go after him 3 times this last few months due to work and family, but each time the dogs have been on freaking fire! Burning up a garmin!

Decided to ask a buddy around here if I could tag along with him the other night and he took me to some nice places where he and his running buddy have been cleaning up on them lately and my dogs wouldn't leave the ranger! Lol
Oh man they could not have been worse! Every dang one of them looked like pound pups I picked up off the side of the road!!!!!  Angry

But head out Saturday on horseback with some other good friends and the old dogs went right back to work like the previous night had never happened?
That's just goofy old cur dogs for you I guess.

All this to say, hunt what produces for you and try to enjoy the fact that we get to use dogs to hunt wild aminals in this country!  Wink

Naw judge I don't like too brag on my dogs cuz the minute I do they make me look like a fool so I brag on others. And naw I don't need all that. Just garmin & a cd & a telephone cuz I'm sure well be trespassing since dogs can't read when we get off the starting point. Since I'll have too make some phone calls and knock on some doors too go get the dog. Aka why I use a truck as well  Smiley don't worry bud, I'll show you the ways of a buggy and you'll be hooked for life.

It sounds like LT has seen a GOOD dog in action a few times.   Tell us some more about how this dog does it all alone and won't come back when the hogs leaves the country because some folks on here need to hear about stuff that GOOD dogs do.

According to Sunday which we was on chambers right dead smack in the middle if it ginger got out to way over half a mile bayed before we could go 200 yards to a caught shoat up the river which we walked didn't take us long.. What is trying to say is no matter where you hunt this dog when a dog strikes and she is involved its going to come up bayed in the end because she will follow it from start to end not matter how long or far the race is. If that 200 yards great or 5 miles she will be there bayed at the end.

Lol Lt I wear cowboy boots.  I don't think oncee was being smart but he might now lol. Matt I never said your dog could not  find a pig or bay or go the distance I said its hard hunting out there and you can't keep up by buggy or truck less you can take it up and down 20 ft inbankments and thru thickets there is not many spots I ain't hunted from 77 on chambers  in Italy  to rankin all by foot. I have been there with bayed 3 miles away and you won't get to the other side faster by road there are only to bridges over chambers in 12 miles no matter which direction you go we will be on the way back by time you figure out how to get there by buggy or truck that's all I was saying kido

LT I am not being a smart-ass!!  I think a lot of people on these sites have not had the pleasure of watching a good dog do what he can do and think that dogs that find hogs and quit after a hour long race are good.  I have stated countless times that no matter if a quitter fits your style better or not i does NOT make him good just because you hunt small places or walk hunt!

A good bay dog shouldn't need 6 hrs or 6 miles to "stop" a hog, hound or cur Wink That goes for bear dogs as well, at least thats what these East Tennessee mountain, plott runnin boys have showed me. They call it "treed" up here, and that is not just standing at the bottom of a tree barking, but being rough enough to "make" one climb.

The best dog is one that fits your needs and wants.

Just like some like rough dogs and some don't. What I look for in a dog might be a cull to you.  Your best dog might be a cull to me.

I apologize then. Half the time you can't tell on here whether people are being a smart ass or not.
But it's pretty much like canyon ranch said. She has no quit too her. It doesn't matter how far. If it's close then great if it's 10 miles ok. She's gonna finish the track out until that hogs bayed or it's legs fall off. And honestly I have other people who will say the same about the dog. And I'm not saying people don't have good dogs I'm just saying I've been blessed enough too hunt behind a dog like this. I had a dog like this for about a year before he was killed and I'll tell you hunting behind these dogs spoil you. Part of me didn't even want too go Huntin anymore after he died ..  but you live & learn & move on.
