Here we go with that cur dog crap again. Cur can do this and that come start living reality. Curs r good but there not the best. To some people they r cause they've never seen nothing better. Jmo

It's all opinions from here on out , but maybe you just haven't hunted with the right cur dogs to feel the way you do.

I'm personally a cur dog man, but I like cold dogs, so hounds aren't out of the picture, but I've seen enough cur dogs that could trail with some of the better hounds out there, so I'll keep trying to raise a cur dog that suits me.

Most people that grow up with working stock dogs are refering to a type and style of dog when they say cur not any particular breed or color. The best way for a dog to stop any animal is to get to the front of them and square up in front of the animal.

Agree with this 100% This is how it has been where I'm from for centuries Lots of different ways to catch hogs though. To each his own.

Well I have yet to see a cold enough cur dog to out strike the Curxhounds I ve hunted behind but that's just what I ve seen with my own two eye balls

Wish I could find a good cur x hound cross or a good pure hound to breed to my cur I just ain't seen one that makes me go wow I know of one real good plot but he ain't got nuts

There is a lot of good post on here about dogs and their ability to range, however, I belilever the dog does not always  control wether he or she is a short, med, or long range dog. I have dogs that will some times really roll out, and some times they dont hunt out so far.   take a dog that is use to hunting thick cover, put him in the river swamp, he should roll out further.... some people love to walk hunt some cast, some track, some do it all..  at the end of the day, if your dog regaurdless of how far he gets from you , can make a unwilling hog a movie star, consistantly, well thats what its about and thats the dog we all should want.

judge, my jane dog is breed to such a dog, silent on track and he is just that a track dog. he will go from track to track unless the hog crosses a lot of water where he looses it , there is pork on the end every time.    you dont have to take my word for it , but i have seen a hog cross in the middle of the day , and go back the next morning and put on that hog and go bay him... the most amazing silent track dog I have ever seen....

judge I never have posted pic, mostly my own lazy self and not setting up a photo buck account or what ever it is im suppose to do.  the dog is just east of Pensicola ,  and im not kidding a fine dog,,  only down fall is  if he cant smell it he comes back and you might as well find another track and find where that hog has crossed another road.... I have hunted with some of the finest find dogs I have ever seen, but this dog takes the cake as a strait track dog....

Without a doubt the best hog dogs ever are the deceased ones. The longer a dog is dead the better he used to be. And if there is no witnesses that knew the dog then it was twice as good. With that being said the old dog man in grew up around would say If your dog is good then everyone else will brag on him so you don't need too.

Most guys won't say some one else's dogs are good when there better than that guys dogs but they will tell you bout another guys dogs that ain't with ya ha ha. dang ne'er every one I have ever talk to has the best dogs rang farther rougher faster strike more catch better hunt harder kinda funny lol. I think people get to caught up in all this range kinda thing.  If you got big big land then you most likely like big big range dogs .  Dogs that range out a mile are so looking for hogs and sign.  If your like me and the biggest place you got is 4000 acres and all the other places 500 to a 1000 you most likely like short to med range dogs.   I think people look at this to much as they judge a dog .  I have heard over the years aw man if he don't range out a 1/2 mile to a mile looking for sign are pigs he is not a real hog dog.  I call B.S.

I like dogs that find hogs and if that is short range going out only 250 yds hunting then so be it ,  if the dog is med range and goes out 500 yds to 800 yds and finds hogs on a consistent deal then that is good with me .  Also even the big big range dog I like them if they find hogs on a consistent deal but I cannot own them because my land says I cant unless I want more Trespassing tickets .

Do be the one that lets range sell you on a dog.  You have no ideal what that do is doing unless you got a saddle on him and right there.    I have seen some short to med range dogs but big big range dogs in the dirt.  You would find two to three hogs all the time the big big range dog is still out looking and then of course there is some really truly great great great big big range dogs that are second to none .

To sum it up I just like dogs that find hogs .  I prefer short to med dogs and cannot use a big big range type of dog.   If a short are med range dog can get out stay busy and find hogs on a consistent basis then am sold on that dog because that is what I need .  Range to me is way way over rated when it comes to dogs .

I believe the range is overrated myself.   I am more interested in a dog like Backwoods is describing.   I find one that can take an 18 hr track and he can follow me around all night.
