Does anyone have a dog with arthiritus? If so what do you give them where they will be able to hunt some? I got a dog that has a limp in his left shoulder. He can run about a mile and then he's done he has to quit as I can tell it's really bothering him for him to quit. He use to be the kinda dog that would go around you and get back on the track and keep going for several hours now he's a 10 minute dog. But I can tell when he quits and I go to him in the road he will be holding his foot up and when he puts pressure on the leg it hurts like hell. Amy thoughts or ideas. I plan on taking him to the vet pretty soon just was wondering on what everyone else thoughts were

Rimadyl the day before, day of and day after a hunt. That's what I gave my old gyp when she blew her ankle out and had it operated on... it helped a lot.

Is remadol for dogs? I've never had any dealings with it and when you give this to your old gyp did she go back to how she was suppose to be doing?

Rimadyl here as well. Works wonders for them old dogs bones!! Had an old lab with a bad ACL, and she would hunt like she was 2 while she was on it. Basically an ibuprofen for dogs. If you have a vet that you have been with a long time, they will normally sell you a big bottle for you to use as needed.

Thanks, im going to call the vet tomorrow and see if I can't get him some on the way. It's a lot better knowing that he might have a little hope on a few more long races.

She was never 100% after the surgery, but she could hunt all day without limping on it. Without it, she couldn't go long at all... like you described your dog.

Rimadyl works wonders for sure. You can also give a MSM/Glucosamine supplement. There's some good ones in powder form.

Just to kinda compare the two.....my vet said 60 Rimadyl for about $70. Or a shot of cortisone for $10, which is supposed to last 30 days, either one I've noticed works great.
I tried the MSM/Glucosamine and could not notice a change..so I'm using them on myself
