Seen a comment on another thread that made me think. What exactly is the poor boy way of hog hunting? If there is one I need to know the way. I don't buy dogs, with the exception of a bulldog puppy I got from Bob on here. Every dog at my house bulldog or cur was bred by me or my partner, again with the exception of 1 I got from Bob and that's the Only dog I've ever spent what I think of as big money($600). I think I'm doin it the cheapest way possible unless there's something I missed. Obviously my definition of poor and the next man's could me a million dollars apart, that's why I ask what do y'all think the poor boy way of hog hunting is?

My idea of the poor boys way is a pound puppy and a 22 long rifle.

Lol poor boy way to me is not getting a new dog every few weeks cuz you have the money to up grade instead of putting in your dues. Poor boy way is putting your last twenty in gas to hit the woods picking pecans to get a garmin. Poor boy is crying late at night when your dog is cut to hell and back and you know damn good and well you can't replace him or afford the vet bill. Poor boy way is duck taping your boots so they will last few more hunts. the poor boy ways is catching a hog so you or some one you know can eat or make few buck to pay a bill. This is more about a way of life many have forgot about as you move up on a income level in the last 20 yrs hunting have been taken over by middle class folks who can pay crazy money for leases and such just my 2 cents

Agree Ed judge and cole.

Hell, I'm middle class and can't afford them hunting leases. Sometimes I wish I could afford to be on 1 for meat hunting.

Ya judge I always thought that was just the normal way, didn't know it had a name. And speaking of names, I also read a thing earlier where someone said they saw a fb comment along the lines of, you ain't a real hog hunter w/o a kennel name. number 2 I guess so I can keep hunting I may just start calling mine exactly what it is  a "poor man's kennels".

The way I see it kennel names are great but most of them are people that are just trying to put a name out there to look good or be cool and that's fine really point less to me ether ya dogs or good  or there not. your words and how good you stand buy them are more important to me if a guy is more about the dogs than his check book than the price doesn't matter. Not all dogs are good just like all folks are not just be honest and respectful and reffraft usely won't come around much. My momma use to say the hook on the wall is to hang what ever you need to but mostly your tears

Poor boy way is getting the most from what u have. Knowing it may not be the nicest but with a lil work it can do the job. It's knowing that there is that chance that that thing u put blood sweat and tears into will out do that store bought thing. It's knowing that what some may consider simple could put u out or back to square one. It's like said above. A way of life. U give up things to provide other things.

As for a kennel name. Well the only reason a person needs a kennel name is if ur selling dogs.

Everyone of y'all hit the nail right on the head. I like to cut boat hogs to make nice barrs and every time I do it, it makes me cringe cuz I know I can sell that hog for a few bucks to cover gas and other expenses but that's just part of the game. Every dog I have is something I've bred or acquired from a buddy. It's an honor for me to hunt when I can and the thrill of watching a pup/ dog you raised from a day old make a hand and find and bay its own hog is something money can't touch. I love the sport and just wish some of these boneheaded teenagers would take it that way. Not saying all teenagers are inexperienced on the sport but most are no offense. Just my 2 cents, don't mean to offend anyone just had a few tonight and venting lol

Shotgun wg  you right on that making it work if take something and make it work and it does good makes you kinda proud. So many fellas take the power of money for granted if they lost it would they be able to make do with what we call normal most can't but some could. I don't stress over stuff that really don't matter or I can't change with little hard work

I was raised  poor, my grandpaw lived next door to us, he had a hog and cow mark, crop, 2 splits in the eight ear and crop, under half crop in the other. We lived right were little river run into catahoula lake. He fished a few Hoop nets and a little webbing, ever day when we would get thru dressing the fish we would make our round thru the lake hills feeding hogs fish scraps  and if needed marking and cutten pigs, we had good dogs and a old horse or two and I enjoyed life just as much are more then, than I do not and thanks to the good Lord above I'm fairly well off due to him and a lot of hard work. One more thing I want to add, anybody in the world that was hungry could ask any of those old men for a hog and they would give them one, but you better not steal one and get caught.

My way is the poorest around. I grew up rich. We had live in maids and vacations and number 2 like that. Now I barely keep food on the table. When I hunt its on some one else property,  with someone else dogs, on someone else wheeler.....and sometimes I cant even do that because I need to work....maby one day my labor will bear fruit

I would think the poor boy way  would be having 1 or 2 dogs that you fed table scraps, hunting from your house on foot,no tracking collars, just string &rope, maybe a single shot 22.

Lou, ur labor will definatly bear plenty of fruit. You are a good family man and good person in general. Folks like are far and few between, but there still are some out there, and a good bit on this forum, some iv had the pleasure to meet/hunt with and some that post on here.
