I heard rumor that Garmin is no longer making the DC50 collar..
Does anyone know this to be a fact or is it just a rumor.

I'm hoping that it's not true because I happen to like mine.
Thank you.

My buddy just bought a astro 320 from a big name store. Either bass pro or cabelas. ..I cant remember which one.  But this was this weekend and it came with a dc50 .

I can't find the DC50's in the DFW area anymore. I had to buy the T5's. A friend south of Austin bought 5 DC50's on sale for $180 each at Cabela's, so I'm thinking they are discontinued.

I wonder what the reasoning is behind that decision if that is indeed the case. I personally haven't had any problems with the dc50s.
The t5's in my opinion from just comparing them to the older garmin collars aren't any better and they are more expensive .

The reasoning is if u offer 2 collars u have 2 production cost. 2 inventory cost. If u only offer 1 u cut cost in half. It's Buisiness and in Buisiness the name of the game is profit. Lower cost means more profit.

Now with that said I haven't seen anything about them discontinuing the 50.

Nevermind yep discontinued. That's a shame cause I like mine. Only benefit of the  T5 is ability to use with 320 or alpha. With this move tho makes me wonder how long before 320 suffers the same fate.

I understand the business aspect of it. But what about customer service. Look at how obsolete replacement collars and parts are for the dc30 . I still have 3 or 4 dc 30s . Not to mention you find replacement collars for a dc30 and they are double the price of a replacement collar for a dc40 or 50.  There almost forcing you to upgrade, but I guess that's just the way it is.

If I remember reading correctly the t5's do not have the bark indicator in them. So does this mean it won't show "treed" anymore? That will suck because I like that feature.
I know my logic is far from most people and garmin especially but if it's not broke don't fix it.
Is the t5 that much better than the dc50? All I have seen is battery life improvement . Which in my case I have no problems with battery life on collars.  ( I'm talking from a person using the astro 320 that doesn't benefit from the advantages of the alpha)  I'm just to far behind I guess. I finally venture out into the dc50 world and they quit making them . Lol..

Yea just read that the T5 does not have bark detection and the battery life is actually slightly lower than the dc50.  Apparently it was designed for the competition hunters.

I'm right there with ya. I have a 320 with 4 dc40's and 1 DC 50. I like the 50 and don't want to upgrade. The investment to where I am was nearly too much. Dang sure don't want to start over.

As far as bark detection goes that is only the bark counter. Not the tree or bayed feature.

Oh ok. I figured without having a bark detection it wouldn't know the difference in when a dog is "sitting down" or "treed" .

Well hopefully I can get a few more of the 50s and have them for a few more years before I have to worry about upgrading . By then the prices on the alpha will be cheaper and I'll upgrade and be behind for the next unit I'm sure. Lol.

Just bought the 320/dc50 bundle today at cabelas. It was still on sale for $399, instead of $599, where as the 320/t5 is $599. I was thinking of buying the 320/50 combo last week, but wasn't sure and when I saw it still on sale I went ahead and got it. I wish I would have seen this thread sooner, I wouldn't have bought it and sold off my last 2 dc30s and just go back to the way I did it before getting a system, but I would need to get a hearing aid first lol. Why do companies pull this kind of crap, make upgraded systems, overlapping them just enough for the previous system to be out of date before the price of the newest system is comparable/reasonable to the previous system? The crap is over priced to begin with and they don't drop the prices much on the outdated systems after the newest stuff comes out. Oh wait, I think I know the answer to my question, freaking monetary greed.

I'm not real sure how long the 50 has been out but I know not long. Maybe a year in a half? I could be wrong.
But in my opinion I don't think you did bad for buying that 320/50 combo . I have no complaints of them . Especially if you bought brand new you shouldn't have any issues for a few years and maybe longer.  I still have dc30s working and they have been around for a long time. So what I'm trying to do is pick up what 50s I can for a good price and sticking with them till they quit on me. Lol
Just to save money .
Only thing that's aggravating is eventually all the brand new ones will be gone and only thing you will be able to buy is used or refurbished.

It wasn't a bad deal, that's why I bought it. after asking how long they had been out, I found a topic from mike dated June 2013 stating du supply has them. If so many people are happy with them, then why has garmin discontinued them? I too still have a couple 30s that as of 4-6 months ago were till ticking and they are compatible with the 320, which is why I bought the combo, considering the 320 alone is $450. I'm gonna call garmin and ask wtf were they thinking discontinuing the 50 after only a yr and a half.

After my call this coming Monday to garmin, I may take the system back to cabelas and get rid of my last 2 30s and say screw it for a fancy tracking system. A good hearing aid is probably all I need and now thinking on it, I don't hunt enough to really justify buying a new system.

If I knew I could sell the new system and the 30s fast, I'd post them on here for this new system and the 30s for $500
