There are tons of people hunting dogs now it seems. I can't imagine what you old timers feel when looking at the life style/sport now days... Why do you hunt hogs with dogs? Is it because you like dogs and like breeding the best of the best? Or because you like raising puppies? Or cause you like killing? Or the meat? What's your motivation?

I got started by accident. I have always coon hunted. Grandpa's grandpa was a hound man. So ive always been around dogs. I like to see a pup turning on and making something.  The meat is another thing that makes me hunt and fish. We try to eliminate the grocery store as much as possible. I am fortunate enough to have a woman that will eat any kind of wild game. Rattlesnakes included. Lol.. plus a little friendly my dogs are better than your dogs between friends is always fun. And ive said it in other posts. I like bringing kids to the woods. Weather they are mine or someone elses that wants to go with me. Theres so many things now days that alot of kids are involved in like drugs, gangs and all that crap. Kids are like pups to me, i like to see them get interested..lol..these are just a few reasons. I could go on for days. A good hunt and a cold beer never hurt anyone..

I guess because it's in my blood. One grandpa was a serious beagle hunter the other a fox and coon hunter and daddy always had beagles or deer dogs. Hog dogs just so happened to be my choice. I like carrying on traditions that my grandpas did before me and to teach it to younger generations because dog men are a dying breed.

nope that's it ryan  lol  .  I've chased dogs all my life  for coon , rabbit's , squirrel , deer and yotes for the shear joy of it  and started chasing hogs just to get them out of the woods . I was looking the new farm over and went to the back side to check the coon population and got ran out of the woods by a sounder of big hogs and have hated and wanted them all dead ever since  lol .

Me....ive grown up with working dogs. Dogs are a huge part of my life and always will be. I always enjoy watching dogs do what they were bred to do. The meat we harvest is definately a bonus. We like living off the land as much as we can.

For me........99% is based around the dog pen. 1% is the pure adrenaline that goes with the sport.

True believer in separate sides of the fence in this sport.

1. Dogmen

2. Hunters.

Both own and handle dogs but completely separate aspects of motivations.

(Neither of which I am discrediting)  just separate worlds and mindsets in which paths cross on the same type quarry.

I got into huntin hogs with dogs, because we have hogs now. We have always had hounds, fiest, and beagles. As far back as my memory serves me, my dad had fox and coyote hounds. When I was 7, he got me a pair of beagle pups to train on rabbits. I had a blast with them.

We've hunted every game there is with hounds. Most people completely disagree with me now on hog hunting, because we love to hear a good race. Extremely open mouth dogs on track. To sit and listen to those hounds burn up a track is just about as good as bayin it and killing the hog. We run treeing walker and catahoula, and our catahoulas are what I would call semi open on track.

Our style of hunting never changed. Just hogs moving into the area changed the game we hunt.

Love watching the dogs work and hearing a hog squeal or a big boar grunting when the catch dogs have it on the ear

When I was a teenager all the chicks loved the hog hunters so I thought that was my ticket to a hot date.   Started hog hunting and got the date but the hog hunting seemed to less of a pain in the a-- and it just kinda stuck.   Been doing it ever since

Nothing like being out in the woods/mountains/desert and hearing the sound of the dogs working a track.  Watching a good pack work the track and get it lined out.  That's why I hunt
