Guys last tuesday my yellow dog got poked in the top of his shoulder/lower neck and it wasnt a bad hole so i didnt staple or stich it up. I just sprayed it with wound spray and turned him out well for some reason the poke whole dont seem to be closing and its developed a knot under it? I have sqeased it but very min fluid comes ut? I have him on antibiotics but i see no difference? has anybody seen this before? please help!!

if what fluid comes out is clear you're ok. He will have a knot under it for a while, I guess it's scar tissue or something, I don't really know. It will go away after a while. If it's a poke, the fact that it has not closed up is good. it needs to be open to drain and heal from the inside out. just keep it clean, maybe try some hydrotherapy. if you have been using the wound spray on it, I'd stop and leave it alone so the skin doesn't heal first. if you need to clean it some diluted betadine should work. put it in a syringe and squirt it up into the poke.

i have been squirting hydrogen peroxide on it is that ok? kinda bubbling out the nasty stuff

I would stop with the peroxide. It's good for an initial cleaning when the wound happens, but after that betadine is better. I've been told that peroxide tends to effect the old tissue that you are trying to clean, and the new tissue that is trying to regrow.

Betadine is good but make sure and dilute it 50-50 because strait it will irratate the tissue

i think im going to try hydro for a couple days and see if it helps at all, i just hate it cause he cant lick it

Lots of times it is the muscle healing. The muscle is torn and trying to heal and re attach itself, sometimes it attaches correctly and sometimes it doesn't. If it doesn't it knots up because it is attaching to itself. It will be fine just use water or a paste to clean.

i wouldnt hunt him if he is favoring that shoulder area......
waiting a few weeks to let it close up would help keep alot of trash out of the wound.
