go with a k-bar, its american made, very durable and has plenty of weight to be used as a hatchet if need be. if the material is stainless, why is it coated to protect from the elements? stainless is already a high corrosion resistant metal. sounds like inferior metal if it has to be coated on top of it being stainless

Why should I trade one tyrant three thousand miles away for three thousand tyrants one mile away? An elected legislature can trample a man's rights as easily as a king can!

I was also looking them over. I want a knife that looks normal im not really to interested in carrying around something that looks like a sword. Charles which kbar do you prefer? Iv never had one but they look like they might make decent guting and skinning knives to.

Only know of 1 k-bar, usmc issue. Do they make another 1? Benchmade has some good fixed blade knives, but if ur at a $100 budget, i wouldnt look at them. They too are american made, made just up the road from where i work. Even after my 30% discount, my auto opener was still $175, but its got a lifetime warrenty and free sharpening for life. Well not free, gotta pay shipping cost but benchmade will put a factory edge on it. Iv had mine for 3-4 months and use it for my everyday knofe and with the factory edge, its still sharp. But not shaving sharp anymore, gotta put it on a stone this wkend

We've been using the Cold Steel OSS the past couple of years. It's double edged and snaps into the sheath so it doesn't come out if you forget to strap it... that's how I lose all my knives! Google it and you can usually find one for $60 to $75. http://www.coldsteel.com/Product/39LSSC/OSS.aspx#

The marine hunter is the one i kinda fancyed. Do yall have a minimal blade lenght i should look for. The reason i dont want to invest alot of money in this knife is if i take a likin to pig stickin i thank il find somebody to make me a custom one thats all shined up with a nice leather sheath.

The cold steel scout recon is a great knife. It is harden steel so you can chop through bone or what ever else you need to. It also comes with a great hard plastic sheath.

yea Charles that is one tough knife...back when I was a young man I chopped a few 2" limbs to make poles so we could haul out a pig from the woods...I still have the same knife and it works as well as when it was new...I took it to the machine shop at work to get the edge how I wanted...I also put a razors edge on the top side towards the point...not a good choice to skin or bone meat on account the blade is a little too thick for that...mine is not serrated...that style came in sometime after I bought mine...
