Circle you need to get your blue dog from Sam Littlejohn's Little Arkie line, they will go back much farther than what you required but they will have a BIG Mouth, Cold Nose, and more STAY than anything you will ever find! That would be my choice. I won a World and a National Championship with them. Good luck
I'll bite. Big mouth, yes, some do. Cold nose, I'll even give you that. Generally, they have a good nose. More stay, well there is where we will have to disagree. The Little Arkie dogs I've hunted around were nice coon dogs. However, they were not gritty on a hog. That being said, I have a buddy in SC that has a lot of that blood in his kennels, and they are coon treeing machines. Nice dogs. I'd love to know what type of championship and the years won. I'm sure you were just pulling my leg though. If you were referring to coon hunting, well we both know there has not been a blue dog win the big one since UKC switched over to the new format. I think you misunderstood me, Ive never seen a Arkie dog on a hog! I was refering to tree power. and I wasnt pulling you leg I won the World all Around in Brazil, In and National Redbone Days in 2004 or 2005 I would have to check..

Does Clay ever open up? Also, how do you hunt him? Do you drop him on sign, rig him, or just put him on the ground and let him hunt out on his own?

Raider54,
I'd love to see some pics of the bluedogs you're packing.
We only have one finished dog and that is Skitzer but you dont want to see him right now, he looks like Frankstine with all the staples he has after this weekend, but we have some sure enough nice 1/2 AB 1/2 Dogo pups that are 7 months old that are catching good. As a matter of fact the pup in this thread went on his first hunt the night Skitzer got cut up so bad and caught on that 300 pounder with him didnt back up a bit!

Clay is totaly silent as a matter of fact after watching him several times in the open I have found he wont even bark at a hog unless he is face to face with it, if it turns away from him he will stop barking until he moves back around in front of it. We have been hunting alot on 4 wheelers lately and clay will run out in front of the 4 wheeler about 150 to 200 yds with the other dogs, when we are hunting like that but if it is a place where we are walking I just cast him from the truck and usualy dont see him anymore till we take the catch dog to him. He will stay bayed till I get there to, 4 or 5 hrs it dont matter. I have never rode him on a wheeler or in a truck so I dont know what he would do. we dont hunt like that. He is a dog you dont have to put in sign just be sure you have a full tank of gas cause he is gonna go find one.

He really is a good dog, we dont hunt him nearly as much anymore because we have an entire pack of young dogs that hunt so much alike, but when the going gets tough we bring him in as a pinch hitter.

The stud dogs that you descibed sounds like the dog that showed up at the ranch. The pissy little yellow dog may have all the breeding required, or he could be a mutt who knows? ? I could donate him to your breeding program, let me know if you need him. Later....

I suggested the beagle and walker in there so when they trash on a rabbit, skunk, dillo, racoon, deer, cow, javelina, truck tire or small child you would have the excuse of "well there's that beagle (or walker) coming out"....... That's what I use even though there ain't none of that blood in my potlickers. Hee hee.... no offense to anyone meant. This is all a fun poke at one another and our own trashy potlickers, so don't no one get in a tizzy.

I think you misunderstood me, Ive never seen a Arkie dog on a hog! I was refering to tree power. and I wasnt pulling you leg I won the World all Around in Brazil, In and National Redbone Days in 2004 or 2005 I would have to check.. Raider54, As you can imagine, making statements like winning the world, is going to draw skeptics. I think you have used a slight play on words. No bluetick has won the UKC World hunt since they converted to the new format, much less since 2003. As far as Redbone days, anyone can show up, and there most likely was fewer than 110 dogs entered. It is not the same as winning the Winter Classic, Autumn Oaks, Grand American, or the world. It is mostly redbone folks just gathering to have good fellowship (nothing wrong with that). If you truely did win the two events mentioned above, congratulations. That is a good accomplishment. [/quote]I am not sure if you are questioning my integrity here but I will post you a pic of my trophies so you can read them but I guess the next comment would be "Well anybody can buy a trophy" but at Redbone days there were 261 dogs and only the first night is breed specific but of course you would already know that! and over 300 dogs at the World All Around

I have only gotten on here and taken a shot at someone one time and I realized the guy I insulted was a 15 year old boy at which time I made a public apology. I was merely making a comment on Circle C's thread and this has turned into me having to justify and defend myself so for the sake of the arguement lets agree that you are or were a more accomplished coon hunter than I ever was and I will remove my post.

Raider, Don't let him get to you...I think maybe a Florida pine goblin pissed in his Wheaties and he was feeling frisky or something. You have every right to be proud of your accomplishment in regards to your coon dogs. Heck, a while back he questioned me when I said my cur dogs cover ~25 miles on the ground during a hunt. as if that was something special

Well for obvious reasons I am finished with the coon dog thing but if my garmin showed less than 25 miles on most of our dogs I would think they must be sick

What's an Arkie dog??
They are Blueticks that have a History of being great COON not hog dogs! they are primarily out of Texarkana and western Tennessee. There will probably be someone correct me here shortly on that but at least that is what I thought I knew about them

There will probably be someone correct me here shortly on that but at least that is what I thought I knew about them I did a quick search of them on Wikipedia and gotta say nice dogs! I see where they could probably be good at putting you on a hog but as far as shutting one down I would say they might be a little to cumbersome (sp?) to move the way I would expect a hog dog to. I maybe wrong but that is my judgement of the cover as I see it. Coon hunting sounds like fun though!

Circle C created a hypotherical scanario all for fun , he mentioned the Bluetick being the base of his Super Dog, I recomended the Arkie line. because if I remember correctly he wanted her to be the nose and drive of this new dog breed the other half of the dog was to add all the things that typicaly you would find in the curs. After hunting hounds for over 30 years I found the Arkie line to be the over all best I ever saw to include all breeds, they were the grittiest, thoughest, hardest driving, consistant coon dogs I notice I ever saw. I know this is where the Walker dog guys come out of the wood work to attack what I have said. I stated earlier I never saw one of them on a hog but I would bet the farm that the pack I had would have eaten a hog up! the truth is I will never know and even more shocking is, I dont care! I hunt Cur/Plott crosses. Its getting to be that you cant just speak freely on here without the concern that someone on here will disagree with you to the point that they take it personal. truth is the Super dog is the one that suits the guy who feeds him
