If your looking for an APBT I would not be as concerned with how it's bred as how it's made and what kind of temperament it has. This coming from a guy who has had nothing but fast lane bulldogs for over 35 yrs. I have tried my dogs on hogs over the last 5 yrs with limited success. The last one was 55 lbs of want to who never learned to find a mark. He was the biggest pain to get thru the briers with. The one before that coulda been a good catchdog but was getting older. I got a linebred catchdog APBT 1 1/2 yrs ago and he got to hunt this year for the first time and man what a diff. He went to the ear every time and if the ear was taken he got the cheek. He weighs 72 lbs after a month of steady hunting. He is lean and tall like a good APBT should be. His handle is improving all the time. You can tye him to a tree 4 ft away and he will settle pretty quick while you are tying the hog. I don't like the term gamebred very much cause it don't mean schat anymore but those type dogs are a little more of a crapshoot with temperament issues. You are in the middle of a bunch of old dog guys tho where your at. You don't need a game dog to catch hogs just one who knows he is catchdog and not a sometime catchdog! Good luck with your search.

My dogs are not bully like that....i like the lil bit of hybrid blood to keep the size and bone type stuff.  a small under bite aint no big deal...even many of the performance bred AB's have a slight undershot bite....the dont catch with the k-9's anyways they should catch with the back of the mouth. but that big bull prolly didnt breathe well either i bet.

Hey G-H that AB looks to be HEAVY Johnson influenced type dog. Stick with the performance or more standard dogs that have a history of being used on hogs and you should be fine.

This is what a look for in a pit. First is broad head for body size but not over sized second length of snout I like a med length in portion to his head size 3rd is legs don't matter the length as much as long to the dogs size and a bit longer of a body helps to if you can hit these best you can should be in the mark well least to me lol

Bryant just told you the truth about the bite and grips. A good bulldog will get a full mouth, deep grip whether in pig work or man work. You've got some very well bred bulldogs just a few minutes down the road and a wealth of knowledge with one of those guys on top of that.

Don didnt have anything for sale when i was there. The one jason has im not interested in. Also im not looking to spend close to a thousand dollars on a dog.  I know a bulldog will catch a hog and the canine teeth are not what should be catching. I just prefer a scissor bite on a dog. And im probably wrong but when the hog breaks i bet the canine teeth will play a part in sitting that ass end down enough to get back on that head.

Go with one of the AB's you've looked at!
i can't seem to find one without an good under bite.

I thought AB's were supposed to have at least a reverse scissor bite. even bite and scissor bit I consider pitbulls. Especially with  these hard headed ones.

If you do end up going with with an apbt, I would look for one who's parents were catchdogs. I agree 100% with Wayoutwest, he hit the nail on the head. Might be hard but see if you can get a feel for what kind of temperament the parents have. Make sure they are not super hot, cause there again that could end up being a lot of work to control. Just my two cents.
